Alyssa Milano’s Organic Garden Present And Garden Tips For Your Region

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 2nd, 2010 in Actresses, Gardening.

Alyssa Milano

For their anniversary, Alyssa Milano‘s husband gave her the gift of fresh, locally grown food without harmful pesticides to the environment.

“For our one-year anniversary, my husband built me an organic vegetable garden,” Milano said, according to MNN. “I’m so obsessed with it.We just had our first salad, and it was absolutely scrumptious.”

The vegetarian with several rescue dogs is said to grow several vegetables including arugula, spinach, green beans, broccoli and tomatoes.

In some regions in the world, gardening is the last project to start, as snow and ice have already covered the ground. Organic Gardening has an online guide which gives tips for gardening, from planting to protecting plants during adverse conditions to harvesting, depending on your region in the United States.

The Pretenders

Chrissie Hynde‘s been eying different cities to launch her second Vegiterranean, a vegan Italian restaurant she opened in her hometown in Ohio a few years ago. While those of us in the U.S. would love a Chrissie dining establishment near us, she’s thinking about taking her business down under. In an open letter to Melbourne, Australia, published in the Herald Sun, Hynde discusses the possibilities of setting up vegan shop there, taking advantage of the numerous local farmers and vendors to provide the freshest ingredients. She is impressed by Melbourne’s green attitude, both food-wise and for their transportation. “Been exploring Melbourne. Mainly nosing around to figure out if my vegan restaurant would fly here. I think it would. Yes, a Vegiterranean in Melbourne. Local produce, local investors, local flavour. There’s nothing like it here and I think the climate is perfect – progressive, health conscious – animal friendly?” (more…)

On the day of the launch, Heather will offer complementary food samples and personal signings of the book at her V Bites restaurant in Hove Lagoon in the UK.

“I hope it gets people to think – that’s really the intent of the film. I’m really not a person that likes to tell people what to do, or say what they should and shouldn’t do, but I feel like they haven’t been presented with this information – many people are just unaware of it – and I think, after they see this, if they go home and go “hm…” and begin to think about their diets and consider consuming more plant foods, that would be something I’d really like to see people get out of this movie. I hope to see the diet change in this country. We’ve tried the animal-based diet and it really hasn’t worked out for us, so I’m hoping to see us trend toward a more plant-based diet because I think it’ll be better for people’s health and for the planet.”

Leona Lewis Fear Of Cats And Facebook Group For Cat Phobics

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis is a vegetarian who loves animals and has demonstrated her compassion by partnering with animal welfare groups for various campaigns.

We’re sure she’d love for all homeless cats to be adopted. Just don’t expect her to sign any papers inviting kitty into her home.

The singer is reportedly fearful of “evil” cats, which she revealed on a DVD promoting her Labyrinth tour.

“A cat jumped on me the other week,” Lewis said. “They scare me. It hissed and scratched my legs – I didn’t know what to do! So I got up and shook my leg, but she was stuck to it. It was an evil cat. I don’t like evil cats.”

Anyone with a extreme fear of cats, even the non-evil ones, is said to have Ailurophobia (pronounced ahy-loor-uh-foh-bee-uh), or an abnormal fear of felines. The condition is popular enough to get its own group on Facebook.
