CNBC’s How I Made My Millions premieres its 16th episode on May 14th at 9:00 pm/ET on CNBC with the tale of a vegetarian entrepreneur who hit big with her line of cat and dog food products, Stella & Chewy’s.

Founder Marie Moody developed the idea for pet food after taking some advice from a veterinarian on how to help her newly rescued sick puppy. The food not only helped Chewy recover, but it benefited her other dog, Stella, as well.

Former president of the United States Harry Truman is credited for saying, “You want a friend in Washington? Get a dog.”

However, if you want a good senator in Congress, your best bet may be a cat.

Matthew O’Leary and Anthony Roberts are trying to collect 10,000 signatures to send to the Virginia Board of Elections in an attempt to put their Maine Coon cat Hank in the race for U.S. Senate.

The campaign, which has an accompanying Facebook page, is meant to highlight the flaws in the political process.

All proceeds from O’Leary and Roberts work will go to animal rescue groups.

Vegan actress Emily Deschanel will be honored at Mercy For Animals’  ”Justice for All: A Night for Creatures Big and Small” event on June 2nd. The evening is meant to celebrate Mercy For Animals’ legal advocacy work for farmed animals, including increased animal protection laws, prosecution for abuse on farms and improved animal welfare conditions.

Actress Amy Smart is looking to help change that by serving as the spokesperson for a campaign partnering the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and PetArmor to rid shelter pets of fleas and ticks.

Ian Somerhalder is taking a bite out of animal neglect and troubled children. The Vampire Diaries actor is building a sanctuary for both animals and children with behavioral issues on a farm he plans to buy in Louisiana.

Somerhalder, a recent recipient of the Humane Society’s Wyler Award, said the sanctuary will not only house animals, but employ children who’ve been accused of bullying to work with and care for the animals, hopefully leading to a change in behavior for both human and non-human.
