Jon Stewart and Wife Tracey Stewart Adopt Horse

When Jon Stewart signed off the air a year ago, he talked about his plans for the future, one of which included bringing a Noah’s Ark group of animals to his private sanctuary his runs with his wife Tracey Stewart.

One very special horse has been given the opportunity to join the family.

Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Elephants Retire To Sanctuary

Activists all over the world are performing tricks way more entertaining than these elephants could.

Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is retiring the remaining elephants that have performed during its shows.

The company had originally planned to do this by 2018, but it looks like these lucky pachyderms are getting an early pension!

SeaWorld Phasing Out Whale Breeding Program

In what many animal rights activists are calling a victory, SeaWorld has agreed to phase out its whale captivity breeding program.

Instead, the popular water park will direct its efforts towards, “new, inspiring, natural orca encounters” with educational programs emphasizing enrichment, exercise and health with its remaining killer whales,” said CEO Joel Manby.

#5 IKEA Launches Vegetarian Meatballs.
The home decor store with an eat-in restaurant had some bad press for the alleged horse meat in its regular meatballs. Now vegetarians can say “neigh” (groan) to any meat when they shop for that special table with the name that’s just as difficult to read as the instructions in its assembly manual.

#4 Morrissey Gives First In-Person Interview in Decade.
Ten years is a long time. Especially when you haven’t talked vegggie in person. The Smiths former singer came back and gave the world a few lessons on why they should never be hungry enough to eat animal flesh on Larry King Now.

Stella McCartney Ends Sourcing From Unethical Wool Supplier

One of the arguments of veganism is that products with claims to be “ethical” or “humane” aren’t always what they advertise.

Such was the case of a wool farm that Stella McCartney used for her clothing line.

After learning about mistreatment of the animals, the vegetarian fashion designer has severed ties with the producer.

The Daily Show Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart‘s final episode of The Daily Show aired this week, marking 15 years of comedy and satire that occasionally was more informative than traditional news.

The topics of improving America’s diets, animal welfare and the earth have all been big topics in recent years and Stewart never failed to put a witty spin on these issues during his tenure.

He poked fun of big farms and the regulations that aim to improve them. He covered whistle blowers in the animal rights community with funny but informative skits. He invited noted animal researcher Jane Goodall to discuss protection of endangered species.

Carrie Underwood

It’s that time again.

The temperatures are reaching into the nineties, humans are sweating enough to fill an Olympic pool and your dogs are locking you outside your car.

Well, maybe not so much the last one.

But for country music singer Carrie Underwood, all three of those are now true.

Underwood Tweeted about a recent experience in which she had to shatter a window to get into her vehicle after her dogs accidentally locked themselves and her four month old son inside.
