Being vegetarian means you stand for a lot of things. Essentially, it’s the symbol good health, good food, animal rights and a healthy environment. Speaking of symbols, they’re are some darn hot celebrities associated with them.

“I’ve thought about this for years. How to get non-leather cool boots and stuff. Ask EmmyLou Harris what her favorite boots are, and get Todd Oldham to design them.”

Chrissie Hynde has revealed to Vogue more details on her ethical clothing line she’s launching with fellow musician and band member JP Jones.

Fairground Luck will contain no animal skins, and was inspired by her friend, singer/musician and vegetarian Emmylou Harris.

The line is designed for musicians, but it sounds as if the t-shirts, skinny jeans, faux leather jackets and cowboy boots could be worn by anyone with a love for rocker/country fashion who makes conscious choices about products.

“Like most women, I love fashion and clothes,” said Hynde. “I love handbags and shoes. Everybody will be able to find everything they love in a non-leather version. Fashion should be fun.”

There’s no shortage of vegetarian cookbooks out there, but if you happen to find a book designed for omnivores that looks interesting, a fun task to attempt might be to see how you can vegetize or veganize the recipes with substitutions.

Kate Nash loves Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food and finds no problem in swapping Quorn faux meat for mince in the lasagna recipe.

“I chose Jamie’s lasagne as my favourite recipe because I love Italian food and this is a really easy recipe to adapt,” Nash told The Guardian. “In this recipe I swap mince for Quorn mince, use lactose-free cheese and spelt pasta and it still works.”

Colbie Caillat and members of her band, including Justin Young, made a stop on their tour to Farm Sanctuary, not to play for the animals but to get acquainted with some of creatures guitarist Young has helped campaign for through his Twitter and other media.

Young, who last time we heard, was aspiring to become a vegetarian for environmental reasons, expressed interest in helping Farm Sanctuary during it’s Ohio Ballot Initiative Campaign, which sought to provide changes to legislation for farm animal treatment like banning certain types of crating and making penalties for cock fight more severe.

The Smoking Gun has unearthed a document that reveals Lady Gaga has requested vegetarian hot dogs for her ryder.

Gaga asked for Yves brand of meatless hotdogs, but the request doesn’t just stop there. The no-meat wieners are to be “eaten with toothpicks.” Kudos to the Gaga for bringing vegetarian fare on board, but she could have made things greener by nixing the toothpicks and asking everyone to eat a dog the old fashion way with their hands or fingers.
