Heather Mills Dairy Dream Come True–Human Cheese Is Here

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, January 13th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Research + Science.

Heather Mills once backed a campaign to replace cows’ milk at Ben and Jerry’s with human breast milk.

Now, a New York University graduate student has created a human cheese product that has been taste tested by real people.

Will it be long before Mills’ acquires the right to produce “PeopleCheezly” and other mom’s milk products at her natural foods company, Redwood Wholefood?

Mirium Simun told Grist:

“Human cheese is initially a pretty shocking concept to most people. In that way its a great conversation starter — people very quickly bring up all sorts of different issues. I’ve had questions come up like, is it OK for a vegan? Is it empowering or exploitative of the woman? Is it dangerous, or actually healthier? Many people feel uncomfortable because they don’t know the woman, or what she is eating — but how often do you know the cows whose milk make your cheese, and what they are eating? The sustainability question is great, too, a lot of people totally get it, they love that I’m using human extracts to make human food, while others think of cannibalism.”

Before you form an opinion, take a look at the finished product and check out the available flavors below.

Heather Mills Christmas Dinner Tips And Ideas For Every Holiday

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 16th, 2010 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Recipes.

Heather Mills

Heather Mills has already shared some tips for enjoying the holiday season without meat and dairy in Veggie Vision’s Guide for enjoying a vegetarian Christmas. Now, she’s advising any vegetarian or vegan to take matters into their own hands when visiting relatives who eat meat. Bring your own and don’t bother arguing about values this time. Stuff your face with good food instead!

“The best thing you can do is bring an amazing dish to the party – such as a vegan dessert or yummy things that people will try,” Mills said. “It’s best not to get into a heavy conversation around the dinner table about your choice. Just say “you live your life, and I live mine, but if you want to have a serious discussion about it, let’s have it another day”. The best way to convert people is by bringing great-tasting food and by looking fit and healthy.”

When a site like Vegetarians In Paradise has recommendations for every major holiday of the year, you don’t even have to bother searching for recipes.

Lovers of vegan deli meats and dairy-free cheeses under brands like Vegideli and Cheezly and Cheatin’ can now shop Redwood like they would any other grocery store.

The decision was made by Redwood after learning many of the natural foods shops in the area did not have much refrigeration space.

Heather Mills Says VBites Will Be Bigger Than McDonald’s

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 6th, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Heather Mills is predicting her vegan restaurant V Bites will be as big as McDonald’s in the next decade. Although the cafe is closed for the winter, some have speculated because of financial difficulties, Mills insists the rest is for brainstorming and a “big announcement” will be made in the next year.

“In 10 years there will be more VBites restaurants than McDonald’s,” Mills told reporters. “It’s the future. We’ve been using the time when the cafe has closed for brainstorming. VBites has been phenomenally successful this year. Everyone loves the food, even carnivores. Plans for it to become a franchise are very much on.”

Currently, there isn’t a a major chain of veg fast food, casual dining or fine dining restaurants, although many independently owned eateries have proved successful in every area of the US, UK and other parts of the world. The idea of going through a drive-through to order faux chicken fingers or having a quantity of vegetarian/vegan quick food options that rival that of Starbucks sounds great if Mills can pull it off.
