Brigitte Bardot On Idiot Fur Wearing Women

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 in Actresses, Fur.

Bridgitte Bardot Travels to Romania to Save Street Dogs

Animal activist and vegetarian Brigitte Bardot has never been hesitant to express her opinions about the fur industry.

And during a recent interview when she was asked what she thought about women who wore fur, Bardot responded, “The women who carry fur these days are idiots. Wild animals are bred in small cages where they go crazy because they cannot lead any kind of natural lives. They are imprisoned in concentrated breeding farms. Minks are gassed, foxes are electrocuted… this complete industry is cruel, barbaric and absolutely useless.”

Point taken.

If you’re the compassionate and intelligent type, you’re obviously anti real fur and would probably love to know what stores and companies sell the real deal.

When making your next fashion decisions, refer to the Humane Society of the United State’s list of fur free designers and retailers.

Abercrombie & Fitch, for example, stated in an email in 2007 that all of its furs were fake.

And Ed Hardy even went so far as to state, “As someone who cares about animals, I am deeply offended by and opposed to the inherent cruelty of animal fur.”

So guess that means Jon Gosselin‘s favorite clothing line is safe.

Take a look at the list, carry it in your pocket when making your business decisions and never worry about Brigitte calling you an idiot.

Alicia Silverstone “Jewish Journal” December 2009

Alicia Silverstone The Kind Diet Book Launch Party

What non vegetarian food did you find hardest to give up after taking the big veg plunge?

For Alicia Silverstone, it was Shabbat dinners that made her weak in the knees.

“I freakin’ loved gefilte fish,” Silverstone told the Jewish Journal, during a recent interview.

Here are a few other highlights from the online story:

She Never Stopped Loving Meat:
I’m not the person who ever stopped loving the taste of meat. I’m a foodie. But I knew I had to give meat up to be able to look at myself in the mirror, to know that I’m a good person and a good Jew. How could I continue seeing myself as a person who cares about the world and yet be responsible for suffering?

On Equating Animal Slaughter To The Holocaust:
I’m always hesitant to go there, because I don’t want to alienate people. We all know that the Holocaust was devastating; one of my oldest, closest family friends was a survivor. But for me, it’s the truth. The production of animals is the greatest holocaust that is happening now, because it’s allowed.

On How A Vegan Lifestyle And Spirituality Connect:
I have found my peace in living in the world as kindly as I can. Going to yoga and meditation, and eating well — that’s how I feel my connection to God.

If you start now, you could at least hope to tie Moby’s record at Angelica.

“Top Chef” Season 6 Finale Featured Vegetarian Dishes (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 in Food & Drink, Reality TV, Videos.

It’s been a great season for herbivores on Top Chef.

Zooey Deschanel made a guest appearance that challenged the judges to not only cook meat free, but also without gluten and soy.

Then came along Natalie Portman, who dropped the V word on the cheftestants and ended up with a mouthful of shallots and garlic.

Last night’s episode featured the chefs making two dishes-one vegetarian and one featuring a local protein (which could have also been vegetarian…hmpf!) for a party of 150 people.

In the end, Jen put way more salt on her veggie dish than the judges preferred and she was sent packing while the brothers Voltaggio and Gillespie remain standing.

Watch the clip above to hear Jen’s thoughts on her exit.

Bill Maher IHOP Cage Free Egg Plea–Humane Society PSA (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 in Animal Issues, Comedians, TV Hosts, Videos.

Bill Maher has collaborated with the Humane Society of the United States to record a PSA informing consumers that International House of Pancakes, IHOP,  continues to get eggs from suppliers that confine hens in battery cages.

It’s so cruel that Bill has nicknamed IHOP “International House of Pain.”

“You may come hungry to IHOP, but you shouldn’t leave happy,” Bill says.

“Not as long as they only use eggs from hens crammed into tiny cages, where they can barely move an inch.”

Maher points out that other restaurants like Denny’s and Burger King are using some cage free eggs, but IHOP has failed to make progress.

Sounds like IHOP needs to HOP on the progressive bandwagon and phase out this cruel method of obtaining eggs.

Aretha Franklin Rockefeller Center 2009–Fur Real Or Fur Fake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 in Female Singers, Fur Real Or Fur Fake.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting

Aretha Franklin performed at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting recently all bundled up for the winter.

Voted Fugliest Fur Hag in 2008 for her critter collection, one might automatically guess the Woolly Mammoth costume Aretha wore was created from real animals who got no R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

But people change.

Could Aretha have wised up and realized that a diva of soul wearing fur is like a diva wearing the same outfit twice.

What do you think?

Is Aretha fur real?

Or is she faking it?
