Heather Mills Launches V-Bites Restaurant

Heather Mills has bought the vegetarian food supplier Redwood Wholefood Company.

The UK based company is the leading supplier of veg foods and has ranked high with the Ethical Company Organisation’s list of vegetarian foods suppliers for three years in a row, with a score of 95%.

Redwood produces over 50 different types of vegetarian foods under several brands, including Cheatin’, VegiDeli and Cheezly.

Director Keith Scott said this about Heather’s recent acquisition:

“We are delighted that the business has been acquired by someone with the dynamism and passion of Heather. We’ve been approached by many large food manufacturers in the past but have never wanted to jeopardise the future of our employees – who we value so much – or our factory by selling the business to a large corporation. By selling to Heather we are protecting our loyal staff and also our base in Corby.”

“Heather shares the same values and aims as us, namely to spread compassion across the planet and promote a healthy and more ethical lifestyle,” Rob Garland, an additional director for the company said.

“Heather has always rated Redwood as the best producer of plant-based animal-free foods in terms of ethics, the integrity of the company and brand and the quality of its products.”

Singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb recently Tweeted about a snack involving soy chicken.

Yum! Vegan asian snack! Fresh rolls. Soy chicken. Anyone else psyched? Anyone sad about it?”

We can’t think of any reason to be sad about it. Unless they were rooting for seitan chicken.

Just where can you get your soy chicken anyway? There is an abundance of veggie brands at your local natural foods stores, and even mainstream stores stock a few here and there.

Be on the lookout for these faux chickens who never lost their wings while getting to your plate.

Gardenburger: Carries a breaded faux chicken patty.

Quorn: Not made from soy, but mycoprotein. Yes, it’s a fungus. Sounds gross, but tastes good! Quorn has grilled faux chicken, faux chicken wings, faux chicken nuggets, and more!

Lightlife: Faux chicken fillets, strips, both plan and seasoned with savory flavoring or lemon pepper.

Boca: Breaded faux chicken, spicy faux chicken, nuggets, and even a “chicken on a bun with Swiss” sandwich.

Morningstar Farms: Buffalo wings, nuggets, patties, and herbed patties.

Yves: Smoked faux chicken, Thai lemongrass meatless chicken.

Don’t know about you, but we’re all chickened out!

**RESTRICTIONS APPLY** Moby at The Hangover premiere event at Vue cinema in London

Moby will kick off a set of concerts in Europe next month in efforts to raise climate change awareness in young people.

In a joint deal with MTV, the concerts are part of the European Commission’s “Play to stop – Europe for climate” campaign.

Moby will perform in Stockholm on August 20, with other musicians taking the stages in Budapest and Copenhagen during the following weeks.

Looks like the European Commission and MTV chose the right man for the job. Who better to represent climate change awareness than longtime vegan Moby?

There’s no greater way to reduce your impact on the planet than to choose a plant based diet, which can reduce livestock emissions, and clear land that would normally be used to feed farm animals for people.

The musician has also been active in supporting Paul McCartney’s Meat Free Monday campaign, aimed at getting people to just reduce their meat consumption by going vegetarian one day a week.

Sure hope he plasters a “Go Veg” sign on his stage set.

Jane Taylor Discusses Rewards Of Riding The Sea Shepherd

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 17th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV.

Whale Wars star and former Naval Surface Warfare Officer (hence the 2008 Sexiest Vegetarian Soldier title) Jane Taylor says riding the Steve Irwin with the Sea Shepherd crews is a lot like her experiences with the military.

But the big differences between the Sea Shepherd and the Navy is that the crew gets to crank their music up, put creative drawings and stamps on the ship’s log, and the whole crew eats vegan!

Jane announced on last week’s episode that she’ll be leaving the Steve Irwin for now, but there’s a good chance she’ll be back!

From an interview with peta.org:

What was the most rewarding part of your post with Sea Shepherd?
I would say being able to utilize my skills in an appropriate arena—the ocean—and feeling useful. The ultimate for an animal activist is to go on campaign and be in the action and feel the wind and sea spray and life as opposed to being in an office, which, of course, is important as well.

You can catch the Sea Shepherd crew on Whale Wars every Friday evening at 9PM EST on the Animal Planet Channel.
