Win Erin McKenna’s BabyCakes Cookbook: 1 Year Celebration!
Written by Vegetarian Star on July 7th, 2009 in Business, Chefs, Female Musicians, Female Singers, Restaurants.
Happy Birthday to us!
A year ago, Vegetarian Star was launched.
Being the giving people that we are, instead of buying presents for ourselves, we’re giving away something to one of our lovely readers.
From now until August 8th, you can enter for a chance to win Erin McKenna’s BabyCakes : Vegan, Gluten-Free, and (Mostly) Sugar-Free Recipes from New York’s Most Talked-About Bakery.
BabyCakes is filled with vegan dessert recipes, many of which are gluten-free and sugar free as well.
The book contains recipes to some of the items sold at the BabyCakes bakery in New York city, which Erin started to provide baked goodies for people with allergies and sensitivities to ingredients found in regular cupcakes, cookies, and the like.
Erin’s bakery and products have become so popular, people stop by just to pick up tubes of frosting to devour.
Plus, veg celebrities like Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel have given it rave reviews!
For a chance to win the cookbook and make your own addictive frosting, just leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite dessert is.
Comments will be closed midnight EST on August 8. The winner will be chosen from a random drawing and be notified via email on August 11, and will have 3 days to respond to our email after being notified. If we don’t get a response, we’ll pick another winner!
So go ahead and celebrate with us. Tell us what your favorite dessert is. And good luck!

Congrats on year #1. May you have many more and I’m sure you will.
My fave dessert is guava pastries, they’re Spanish and i usually home make them. They’re so goooooood!!! Not exactly low-fat, but tasty and veggie.
P.S. The BabyCakes book looks awesome, nice giveaway! Thx.

My favorite dessert has got to be Greek-style baklava. It took me years to finally perfect the right balance of crispy but moist pastry, sweet but tart syrup with the right ratio of nuts, dough and syrup.
But baklava’s kind of ‘project food’, with the amount of preparation it takes (and wrangling phyllo dough), and I haven’t attempted it without butter. So my favorite dessert that I make regularly is probably a toss-up between old-fashioned chocolate chip cookies and vegan super-chocolate cupcakes.

I lived in NYC for a few months and I’ve been fortunate to be able to experince the ecstasy that is BabyCakes. I know that my own home made cupcakes don’t come anywhere near to theirs. I’d love to have that book. It’d be the next best thing to being back in NYC.
Anyway, my favorite home made dessert has to be tofu chocolate mousse pie. So decadent, yet so simple.

I love the Amish friendship bread.
My mother baked it a lot during my senior year of high school, then she made a loaf before I went off to college.
I sat in my dorm room the first couple of days I got there and stuffed myself with nothing but!
Haven’t had it in awhile, but I’m sure there is a way to make it vegan.

I love chocolate chip cookies! But the best thing about cupcakes, you can turn anything out of them, I’m a bakeholic. I been waiting for this book at the library, I’m 11 in line, must be a really popular book.
Congrats on the 1 year b-day, so young. One day I hope to have a website, it’s just hurt to get startred and how to.

I’ve been reading all the other comments…they’re making me so hungry, and I just ate!
I dream of trying BabyCakes…we don’t have anything like that here in West Michigan, so I get pretty jealous when I hear about all the cool vegan bakeries and restaurants on the East and West coasts.
Favorite dessert is a tough one. I love a moist lemon cake with lemon (vegan) cream cheese frosting. Also just about anything chocolate. And Purely Decadent ice cream. Yum!
