“Whale Wars” Season 4 Premiers On Animal Planet June 3 (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Videos.

Whale Wars will begin its 4th season in the Southern Ocean on Friday, June 3rd at 9:00 p.m. on Animal Planet.

The series, which has been nominated and received several prestigious film awards, will show Captain Paul Watson and his crew fighting to protect whales in the waters by thwarting Japanese whalers. Season 4 will feature several new additions to the crew’s equipment, including a new vessel named Gojira, a helicopter, secret GPS devices and more.

It’s a risky job, but it’s one that has continuously caused a decline in the number of whales killed every year and caused whalers to completely abandon the hunt prematurely last year.

“In order to save the whales, people have to be willing to risk their lives,” Watson said. “We can’t stop whaling? That’s what they once said about slavery, but it was stopped. So yes, we can stop whaling.”

Below is a sneak peek from season 4.

Japan has suspended whaling in the Antarctic until further notice due to the extensive actions performed by anti-whaling activists, Sea Shepherd.

Sea Shepherd sails the seas where whalers hunt and uses tactics such as throwing rancid butter on the whaling ships in an attempt to slow down and stop whaling. These protests are the basis for the popular Animal Planet show, Whale Wars.

The hunt was halted on February 10th, but this isn’t the first year Sea Shepherd has thwarted the performance of whalers.

Trey Parker has included a talk on DVD commentary on why he and Matt Stone chose to poke fun of Captain Paul Watson on a South Park episode titled Whale Whores.

If you can remember, the episode portrayed Watson and the Sea Shepherd crew in a less than positive light (is anyone portrayed positively on South Park?) and Parker says that although he and Stone are against whaling, they’re not cheering on Watson’s attempts.

“They come up with some big plan and then somehow they f*ck it up,” Parker says. Listen to how Parker explains, in his opinion, how.

Whale Wars Season 3 Premieres During Pete Bethune Trial (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Reality TV, Videos.

Season 3 of Whale Wars premieres this Friday at 9PM E/P, during the same week activist Pete Bethune‘s trial began for an alleged assault in Japan.

According to the Daily News, the prosecutor said Bethune threw an rancid butter bomb which injured a Japanese crewman, causing burns to his face.

According to Bethune, it was no more harmful that eating a chunk of the cholesterol, saturated filled spread on a piece of bread.

“It’s organic and biodegradable and would not harm anyone,” Bethune said.

Bethune was taken into custody after boarding ship Shonan Maru 2 in an attempt to make a citizen’s arrest of its captain.

Bob Barker has always been outspoken on animal welfare issues, but has he joined Captain Paul Watson and the rest of the Sea Shepherd crew to thwart the whalers in the Southern Ocean?

Not quite (but hey, there’s always next season).

The Bob Barker is the latest ship to partake in the Sea Shepherd mission off the Adelie Coast.
