Chrissie Hynde Joins PETA Protest Of KFC

Let’s face it, animal rights activists have to have thick skin.

When your motives are questioned, your tactics are ridiculed, and the cops are just waiting to shackle you at the slightest feeling the peaceful protest is turning ugly, it takes a lot of balls to get up routinely and stand up for creatures who cannot.

Not to mention those insane outfits!

From priests to fake bloody meat to animals to even getting downright naked, animal rights activists show no shame in dressing for the occasion to get the point across. Not a problem at all for vegan singer Chrissie Hynde.

“I don’t mind standing next to a guy dressed as a carrot chanting, ‘We’re not leaving ’til the cows come home,” Hynde told the Sunday Mail.

Or, standing next to a KFC chicken.

“If you’re willing to make a bit of a fool of yourself to make your point – that’s what you have to do.”

Whether it’s protesting KFC, McDonald’s or the mulesing industry, Chrissie has proven she never fails to pay her dues to the fools’ club.

Moby Ponders If Zombies Eat Vegans

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Tribeca Film Festival Chanel Dinner celebrity arrivals in NYCMoby was on his way to the dentist recently when he started a much intellectual discussion with himself about whether zombies would find vegans tasty.

Please note that he hadn’t been to the dentist yet, so there was no Novocaine or other mind altering painkiller involved.

“see, i know the zombies won’t want to eat the vegans, as vegans tend to be all skinny and stringy and we’re generally kind of speedy. they’re going to make a b-line for vegas and eat the people standing in the buffet line. cull the herd, zombies.”

Why the concern about zombies, you ask? After experiencing his first earthquake a few days ago, Moby also experienced his first zombie escape. You can view a pic of the zombie escaping the trunk of a car on his journal.

Of course, Moby never thought to ask if zombies themselves were vegan. That fugitive zombie could just have a mean craving for sweet and sour tofu.

Vegan Olivia Wild Is #1 On Maxim’s Hot 100 List

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 18th, 2009 in Actresses.

American Casino premiere at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival

Maxim recently unveiled its Hot 100 List and a vegan lady is numero uno!

Olivia Wilde, star on Fox’s House, tops the charts and beat out other meat eating woman like Megan Fox, Eliza Dushku, and Rhihanna.

Olivia made Maxim’s 100 Hottest women in 2008-but barely hanging on the ladder at #97.

We suspect her sudden rise to the top has something to do with her veganness. Really, we heard plant based foods do wonders for the hair and skin.

Olivia had been “mostly vegetarian” with the exception of a plateful of flipper here and there. Then, earlier this year, she made the announcement on Ellen DeGeneres she’d transitioned into a complete vegan.

Engine 2 Diet’s Rip Esselstyn: Real Men Eat Plants, Boys Eat Meat

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 18th, 2009 in Authors, Videos.

Nice little video of Rip Esselstyn, author of the Engine 2 Diet discussing how the firefighters of Austin, Texas’ Fire Engine Company #2 eat vegan during work shifts.

Rip encouraged the guys at Engine 2 to go veg after some were having medical problems like high cholesterol. According to the video, a study showed heart disease kills more firefighters than fire itself.

Esselstyn’s book, which helped Newsweek’s David Noonan go vegan and lose weight, was written after he was inspired to go veg from his father’s research. His father, Dr. Caldwell Essestyn says, “Having the USDA design your food pyramid is like having Al Capone do your taxes.”

Esselstyn’s entire family eats vegan and it looks like the family favorite food is kale (Watch aunt Esselstyn rip the leaves off that plant, yo)

Best quote of the day starts at the beginning of the video when Rip says, “Real men eat plants and boys meat meat.”

Rip thinks in the next five years eating meat will be such a social disgrace, taking your tenderloin away from the picnic gathering will be equal to asking a smoker not to smoke inside.

While he may be a little overly optimistic, with more people choosing to at least flex or reduce some meats in their diet, Rip’s definitely onto some future trend.

Erykah Badu performs at the 40th New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival
There’s nothing like going to your hometown for a good vegan meal!

Erykah Badu and her family enjoyed some vegan grub at Spiral Diner in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas.

Badu was born and bred in Dallas and likes to stop by when she’s not touring.

It’s gotta be the food.

Silverstein’s Shane Told Tweeted about his love for Spiral Diner vegan brownies and ice cream.

In a world where LA and New York are the veg food meccas, it’s so cool to know the southern folk can get their vegan eatin’ on at a reputable place.

Heather Mills Debunks Vegan Myths At Brighton Foodie Festival

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, May 17th, 2009 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Models.

Heather Mills Speaks At Viva! The Incredible Veggie ShowHeather Mills cooked up some tasty vegan recipes at the Brighton Foodie Festival this weekend. Heather recently joined Twitter because she said she wanted to share vegan recipes and “tell it exactly like it is,” and that’s exactly what she did when she spoke about veganism at the festival.

“They just think that it’s boring nut roasts and lots of hippy people who they think haven’t washed for months but they do, but that’s not what being vegan is about,” Heather said, according to the UK Daily Mail.

“It’s about being animal friendly, saving the environment and the planet. The biggest contributor of global warming is the consumption of meat and dairy, but of course they are not going to tell you that.”

Chef Heather (yes, we can officially call her that, now) gave audience members samples of leafy green and soy beefy stir fry, creamy sweetcorn chowder, and creamy nut korma with faux chicken.

The dishes were just a taste of what Heather plans to put on the menu at V-Bites, her new vegan restaurant in the UK.
