Paul McCartney Letter To Pamela Anderson: Preaching To The Choir

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 in Actresses, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Pamela Anderson, Chrissie Hynde and Paul McCartney Maybe Paul McCartney is getting old.

The famous vegetarian Ex Beatle has written a letter to former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson detailing all the benefits of a vegetarian diet.

But why on earth is he telling this to Pamela, who’s been a vegetarian for years?

“There are several reasons for a shift in a much lower input of meat in human diets if not complete vegetarianism…Quite apart from reasons of compassion for animals, a move towards vegetarian diets would also address the crisis in the global food market which leaves the poorest of the poor severely malnourished and ill-fed with food prices that have climbed to substantial heights in recent months largely because of diversion of food grains for conversion into animal proteins.”

Like duh. Pamela knows that dude.

Vegetarian Eric Roberts Helps Cook Chicken At Senor Sammy’s

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards - Arrivals

We know Kristen Bell won’t mind cooking crockpot chicken for her friends and Kelly Clarkson stuffs dead bird for the family at Thanksgiving. Now we know Eric Roberts won’t mind cooking chicken for his carnivorous friends and family.

The actor and brother of Julia Roberts spent some time in Tuscon, Arizona with his sister and a family friend where he was spotted at Mexican restaurant Senor Sammy’s helping out with the chicken cooking.

Sure, Eric may be a nice guy for helping and all, but couldn’t he have just helped with the bean burritos, instead?

“People don’t understand what it is to lighten their footprint, what steps to take. So if we give them the simple steps and we tell them exactly how much it affects the environment if they make certain changes—being a vegetarian, doing other things that make a dramatic difference in how much weight they carry in the world—people want to know that. When they realize that by changing simple things they can make a difference, it’s an empowerment vehicle.”

—-Russell Simmons, in an interview with grist.org on the little steps people can take to reduce their carbon footprint. Yes, being a vegetarian is a great way to lighten their footprint. Even if it means cheating every once in awhile.

Take a good look at this man, folks. If he is preparing your vegetarian meal, run away and don’t eat it.

Twenty-six year old Ben from Chicago, IL is the latest contestant to burn in Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen.

After last week’s performance, we’re not surprised.

You see, Ben asked Gordon if a vegetarian salad needed tuna.

The question resulted in a slew of tirades from Ramsay, but Ben just didn’t get it.

Later to the camera, Ben boasts the only reason Ramsay yelled at him is because Ramsay see him as a potential winner in the contest.

Maybe Ben himself has been eating too much tuna like Jeremy Piven and is suffering from some sort of mental confusion from mercury poisoning.

Paul McCartney Signs Petition To Ban Trading Of Seal Goods

Natural Resources Defense Council 11th Annual Forces For Nature Benefit
Paul McCartney is the latest celebrity to add his name the growing list on the petition urging members of European Parliament to make the trading of goods made from seals illegal.

“The fate of millions of seal pups is in the hands of elected members of the European Parliament,” McCartney said in a statement.

“In the next few weeks they will have a historic opportunity to stop the cruel trade in seal products throughout the European Union.”

Voting on the complete ban takes place next week. Such a ban would deter hunters from clubbing seals, wishing to gain profits from their coats and meat.

Update from our post on Sign Carrying Vegans in the American Idol audience!

Liz D. just dropped a tip to let us know that the sign carrying vegan was Isa Chandra Moskowitz of the Post Punk Kitchen!

You kitchen fanatics know Isa from her cookbooks, such as Vegan with a Vengeance and Veganomicon.

We think it’s totally rad that Isa got some face time for carrying her vegan sign! Maybe this will make Simon Cowell reconsider going back on the vegetarian diet he tried for a week years ago

Sign Carrying Vegans In American Idol Audience Hurt By Flowercide?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 25th, 2009 in Reality TV.

Update: The vegan sign carryer in the audience was vegan author Isa Chandra Moskowitz. See new post for details

Either Entertainment Weekly is making fun of Earth Day and vegans or there were some people in the American Idol audience professing their vegan love!

In a recap of last week’s Idol show at popwatch.ew.com, writer Whitney Pastorak poked fun of several people, including a wild pack of teenage girls:

“The pack of three preteen girls behind me — who were so excited they spent most of the show clawing at one another’s arms, and I hope to god their mothers trimmed their nails beforehand lest they look like they were mauled by adolescent bobcats..”

Since there were live flowers passed around, Pastorek joked she hoped the vegans in the audience weren’t too shook up over the death of the plants.

“There were a bunch of sign-carrying vegans in the audience tonight, and I can only hope the whole incident wasn’t too much for them to bear. Unless vegans don’t mind flowercide. I always forget what we can and cannot kill in this crazy world.”

It’s hard to tell if Pastorek is serious or not, so chime in and let us know if you’ve heard anything. Were there any veg groups attending the American Idol show that night?

Emily Deschanel Currently Without Companion, Home Cooked Food

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 25th, 2009 in Actresses.

Genesis Awards 2009

Emily Deschanel has announced that she’s currently single and on the market.

But if you want a chance at her, there’s some pretty strict criteria you’ll need to meet, including being super sweet and having four legs.

In a recent interview with PETA, Deschanel expressed an interest in adopting a pet once her hectic schedule cools down a bit.

“I don’t have any animal companions right now. My amazing dog Snookie passed away a year ago. She was 17 years old. I miss her. She was super sweet and smart. I’m not ready for another animal in my life right now, especially because I wouldn’t have the time to take proper care of them (we work 16- to 17-hour days). I look forward to the day I can bring another animal into my home. They enrich our lives so much! Of course, I would adopt!”

Not only is she too busy for animal love right now, poor gal can’t even find time to make a home cooked meal for herself.

“I don’t really cook for myself right now since my schedule is insane. I look forward to the day I can pick up my Veganomicon cookbook and go to town!! I also indulge in raw chocolate on a daily basis.”
