Quantcast Vegetarian StarNatalie Portman (8)

Tis the season for vegan on Top Chef.

Although that dreadful Hardee’s Thickburger commercial star Padma Lakshmi still hangs around cheering for steak, more vegan moments are occurring on the Bravo Network Reality TV series.

We already know vegan actress Natalie Portman will be popping in sometime.

And next week, actress and singer Zooey Deschanel will make an appearance.

The chef contestants will have the challenge of preparing a meal for Zooey and her friends.

Not only must the chefs make a vegan meal, it needs to fit Zooey’s dietary restrictions of gluten-intolerance and no soy.

Watch Zooey send a special message to the chefs, prepping them for the competition.

Natalie Portman Making Guest Appearance On Bravo’s Top Chef

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

2009 White House Correspondents Association Dinner

Natalie Portman will be making a special guest appearance on Bravo’s Top Chef in the upcoming season six, which premiers Wednesday, August 26th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Since Nat is a hard core vegan, the cheftestants will probably be given the challenge of whipping up something meatless, eggless, and dairyless for the actress.

Top Chef had a vegan experience last year, when the Food Fighters were invited during the Thanksgiving episode and requested the chefs cater for their crew of 60 people, some of which were vegetarian.

The vegan cornbread stole the show last year. Will another veg dish be a big hit?

Crossing our fingers none of the cheftestants “chicken” out like last year’s Carla and go with a meaty dish when they really wanted to make a vegetarian one.

Stella McCartney Thinks Outside The Leather Shoe Box

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Fashion.

**RESTRICTIONS APPLY** Stella McCartney at the Time Magazine 100 Most Influential People in the World gala in NYC
Stella McCartney has her fans and foes on this site. Many of you are not too happy that not all her clothing is completely vegan, and that’s understandable.

But she is trying to do good in an un-green Gucci world, so you have to give the daughter of a Beatle some credit.

One beef many folks might have with her designs is the fact they cost more than a hour of overtime or so at work. Affordability, says Stella, is often the price to pay for ethical fashion.

“Our shoes are 70 percent more expensive to make because we don’t use conventional methods,” she said of her Italian-made line. “When you’re not working with leather, you really have to think outside the box.”

When you consider cruelty-free, eco shoes like the Summer Rayne Oakes represented Zoe and Zac making their debut and Natalie Portman’s vegan shoe line extinguished by a bad economy, one has to wonder how much longer expensive, designer shoes will have their place in the ethical evolutionary history.

Stella may be forced to think outside the box again to create ways to design more affordable non-leather fashions.

Tom Cruise Orders Veg Plate At White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

Tom Cruise at Valkyrie premiere, JapanSaturday night’s White House Correspondents’ dinner brought many celebrities to the table, including Eva Longoria, Natalie Portman, and actor Tom Cruise.

Not even the Secret Service can prevent the gossip columnists from getting the dish on what people ate, and it was reported that Cruise ordered the vegetarian entree.

Does this mean Tom of Tomkat is going veg?

If so, we’ll go on Oprah and jump on the couch with him as he exclaims, “I love this diet Oprah. I love this diet so much.”

We would never veg OUT someone like PerezHilton.com does, but our speculations were right on target for Ginnifer Goodwin after it was discovered she had a habit of picking up food from Vegan Glory.

Tom is so vocal, if he does go veg, we’ll all know soon.

Natalie Portman Keeps Vegan Identity Out Of Filmmaking

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 in Actresses.

Natalie Portmans MakingOf Project - New York City
Natalie Portman is a strict vegan who won’t even wear clothing made from animals. But when it comes to her job in the film industry, she tries to keep personal life separate from business.

Portman recently appeared at an Apple store as part of the “Meet The Filmmaker” series.

Michael Croland, blogger for heeb’n’vegan, got the opportunity that every man on planet earth dreams about: to talk to Natalie.

Croland asked Portman about the film, Kosher Vegetarian, and how her religious and diet beliefs played a role in movie. Portman plays a Jewish woman in love with a Indian vegetarian.

“I try not to mix my beliefs too much with my filmmaking. … I went to see [Closer director] Mike Nichols speak the other night when he was at MoMA, and he was actually saying … the biggest job of the actor is to make a case for their character–that you have to defend your character no matter what. So if you’re playing a serial killer, you have to believe in that completely. … That’s your biggest job. … You’re obviously playing people with all different belief systems that are very different from your own.”
