Robin Quivers Makes Superbowl Snacks On Vegucating Robin (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 7th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Radio Hosts, Videos.

The Superbowl is about a month away and for those who enjoy the countdown, the National Football League has provided a nice stopwatch on its website.

What the NFL isn’t providing, however, is a recipe for healthy, vegetable chips to replace the salty ones in the bag you enjoy dipping while gulping down the vegan beer.

Robin Quivers and chef Gavan suggest making these from carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes and rutabagas–all fantastic tuber vegetables–as a great TV watching snack on Quivers’ web based series on vegan cooking, Vegucating Robin.

Plus, cool tips like right way to peel a vegetable and how to use a mandolin are included.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 7th, 2011 in Actresses, Fur, Models.

Joanna Krupa

Kanye West made a fool of himself when photos of him wearing a long mink coat were posted online, launching a tirade from Twitter users.

Joanna Krupa had a lot more to say than 140 characters, and she started by telling Fox411.com, “If Kanye is wearing a real fur coat — and that’s what it looks like — then I think he’s a man without heart, soul or any common sense.”

Back in April 2010 when she helped the Postal Service launch a pet adoption awareness stamp series featuring adopted animals, Ellen DeGeneres vowed to make the year even more friendly to shelter animals by donating one million meals to them if enough people bought the stamps.

That goal was reached just before Christmas last year.

“We are thrilled with the success of the campaign and the incredible number of supporters who helped us to achieve this goal,” Halo’s CEO Steve Marton said in a press release. “It’s our mission to make a real difference for pets.”

A total of 100 different shelters benefited from Halo’s and animal lovers’ generosity.

The program was developed to support both the Produce for Better Health Foundation’s Fruits & Veggies — More Matters program and First Lady Michelle Obama‘s “Lets Move!” anti-obesity campaign.

The Lunchbox Winners website contains several recipes, many of which are vegetarian and vegan and include recommendations like hummus and soymilk. Our favorite winner: The Get Jammin’ Diggity-Dog featuring a banana on a hot dog bun with peanut butter and strawberry jam.

Look, it’s a naked man. No, it’s a PETA ad. No, it’s a prostate and testicular cancer prevention ad.

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine is posing in UK Cosmo nude in order to bring attention to prostate and testicular cancer and remind men to check for signs and symptoms. The photo shoot, on behalf of the organization Everyman, UK’s prostate and testicular cancer campaign, isn’t something unnatural for Levine, as he claims he’s always naked.

“I often have to be told by the people around me that it’s inappropriate to be as naked as I am,” Levine revealed. “But I live in California, where it’s always warm, so why not.”

Roseanne Barr Prefers Nuts To Meat

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 7th, 2011 in Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green, Food & Drink, Nutrition-Health-Fitness.

Most people would agree that Roseanne Barr is pretty nutty.

She’s offering more proof of this by running her own nut farm. While promoting her latest book, Roseannarchy: Dispatches From the Nut Farm, Barr said nuts beat meat for both environmental and health reasons.

“They’re the perfect protein,” she said. “They don’t have any carbohydrates and the only fat they’ve got, which is a lot, but it’s the good kind. So it’s better than beef. No greenhouse gases. Nice nuts.”

Barr’s favorite nut is the macademia one.

Anyone who breaks an American record for running a 24 hour race probably has good advice on nutrition. Heck, anyone who can run for 24 hours should set the new government guidelines for eating and rebuild the food pyramid.

Vegan ultra marathoner Scott Jurek is about to release a book either by the end of this year or early 2012 that may contain some indispensable advice for plant-fueled athletes like he gave to No Meat Athlete.

Number 1: Go Slowly
Like training for your first marathon, switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet that’s healthy isn’t happening in a week. “I think it’s always good to have a gradual transition; have a plan,” Jurek said. “PCRM does a great 21-Day Vegan Kickstart program and giving support along the way.”
