Russell Brand’s Mr. Twitter Universe Qualifications Include Veg Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Actors, Celebrity Tweets.

BAFTA/LA hosts The Second Annual British Comedy Festival held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills

(Singing). There he is. Mr. Twitter Universe.

He’s not quite wearing the crown yet, but Russell Brand is currently in second place for the title of Mr. Twitter Universe. Given his bad boy history, this honor better not be something that can be rescinded at the drop of a scandal, or he’s in big trouble.

A Russell fan has compiled a list of reasons why you should vote for him, which includes his love for animals.

“Russell has been a vegetarian since his teens, is a doting and devoted pet owner to his beloved cat Morrissey, and has twice been named Europe’s Sexiest Vegetarian by PETA. He’s currently in the running for Sexiest Vegetarian Alive – in fact, while you’re at it, pop over and vote Russell Sexiest Vegetarian Alive, too.”

Of course, Russell also has his own troupe of strippers @BrandyStrippers, so you know he’s the best man for the job.

Don’t forget to vote for Russell and read the entire top 10 list of reasons to vote for Russell as Mr. Twitter Universe at RussellBrandlove.com.

Matthew Fazzi Of Taking Back Sunday Needs VegOut iPhone App

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Business, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

D*CODED Launch Event Featuring Taking Back Sunday

Taking Back Sunday is about to release their newest album, New Again, on June 2nd.

Popwreckoning got a chance to chat with guitarist and back up vocalist Matthew Fazzi (shown on the right) before he jammed at a show in Kansas City.

Fazzi must work up an appetite during shows, because he was asking about checking out vegetarian restaurants afterwards.

PW: Well, you’ll have to be sure to check out the city after the show.
MF: Yeah! Do you have any suggestions?
PW: What do you like to do?
MF: I’m vegetarian, so if you know any vegetarian places that would be great. Parks, historical landmarks…

Of course, if Fazzi has an iphone (and like, OMG, who doesn’t?), he can install the VegOut application that lets you search for vegetarian and vegan restaurants and stores in any city or state.

VegOut was created by Champ Bennett, another musician and software designer on the side, after he found finding somewhere to eat in Europe a royal pain.

Musicians know best, Matthew. Take it from someone in the club and get VegOut already!

Update: Photo has been updated. Thanks guys.

Chrissie Hynde Joins PETA Protest Of KFC

Let’s face it, animal rights activists have to have thick skin.

When your motives are questioned, your tactics are ridiculed, and the cops are just waiting to shackle you at the slightest feeling the peaceful protest is turning ugly, it takes a lot of balls to get up routinely and stand up for creatures who cannot.

Not to mention those insane outfits!

From priests to fake bloody meat to animals to even getting downright naked, animal rights activists show no shame in dressing for the occasion to get the point across. Not a problem at all for vegan singer Chrissie Hynde.

“I don’t mind standing next to a guy dressed as a carrot chanting, ‘We’re not leaving ’til the cows come home,” Hynde told the Sunday Mail.

Or, standing next to a KFC chicken.

“If you’re willing to make a bit of a fool of yourself to make your point – that’s what you have to do.”

Whether it’s protesting KFC, McDonald’s or the mulesing industry, Chrissie has proven she never fails to pay her dues to the fools’ club.

One of the first supermodels, Marie Helvin is still looker hotter than ever in her 50s. And she does so without animal killing botox.

Helvin claims to use nothing but soap and moisturizer.

“Whatever I use on my face I take right down [to my cleavage],” she said, according to the UK Daily Mail. “They’re my best asset. Not that anyone really sees them any more. But I do.”

Like Christie Brinkley, who’s also in her 5th decade, Helvin is a vegetarian.

She is currently the face for Marks & Spencer’s portfolio fashion for women over 50.

Diane Keaton Can Have Chinese Chicken And Fake Meat It Too

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 21st, 2009 in Actresses, Business, Food & Drink.

15th Annual Women In Hollywood Event - Inside

Diane Keaton recently gave an interview with DesMoinesregister.com while eating a “Chinese chicken salad without the chicken.”

When you take the meat off salads with “meaty” names, you’re usually left with rabbit leaves-no dried fruit, nuts, beans or any other delicious additions a veggie salad would include.

Sounds pretty bland, but ’cause Diane’s veg, she had to get her salad sin pollo.

Wonder if she knows she can have her Chinese Chicken flavor and (fake) meat it too?

Famous veg Doc Dr. John McDougall has a line of soups out and one of his low sodium delights is Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup. A description from Rightfoods.com says, “Tasty sesame, ginger and green onions give this vegetarian Chinese Noodle Soup a delicious Asian flair. Only 1 g fat, 140 calories and 360 mg sodium.”

Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup, as well as every McDougall soup, is vegan and available on the shelves at your local grocery. You can also order online.

Poor Diane. Someone’s gotta tell her to ditch the rabbit leaves and go for the faux real Chinese Chicken next time.

Method Man’s Method Woman Is Off The Meat Rack

Fox Network New Season Launch Event

Method Man and Redman have recorded a new album, Blackout! Vol. 2, and their latest rhymes have some veggie rhythms to them.

We would never promote the use of drugs, but feel it’s necessary to emphasize that although Method raps about following Amy Winehouse’s lead and rejecting rehab, at least his Method Woman is off meat.

From track 12, Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers:

They tried to make me go to rehab, no
Tell my P.O. that I ain’t trying to let the weed bag go
You can catch me in the whip pushing the seats back slow, my chick’s a vegan, that mean she off the meat rack, though.

If you’re interested in reading more about Blackout! Vol. 2, you’ll have to do so here on this mobile phone. Either we are late in the game learning about this type of blogging or someone at Vibe’s really creative.

Method Man is a member of the veg group Wu-Tang Clan.

Leilani Munter’s Mom Put Her Foot Down: No Meat In My House!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 21st, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

Global Green USAs 6th Annual Pre-Oscar Party - Red Carpet

It might not have been easy being vegetarian growing up if mom and dad were meat and potatoes kind of parents.

Luckily, for race car driver Leilani Munter, she didn’t have that problem to worry about as mom wore the pants along with her apron when it came to meals and one day decided to make the whole fam go veg.

From the May/June issue of Vegetarian Times:

“It was my mom’s idea. One day she came home and announced that the whole house was going veg. It was fine with me, because when I realized hamburgers came from cows, I was horrified.”

Way to go mom!

Are you a parent who put your foot down and banned meat from your household? Tell us about it.
