Gordon Ramsay Going Vegetarian For Great Escape To India

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, May 10th, 2009 in Chefs.

2009 White House Correspondents Association DinnerWe joked around on April Fool’s day when we announced the Hell’s Kitchen star Gordon Ramsay had went vegetarian after accidentally electrocuting himself. But this time, it’s for real, if only temporary.

Ramsay has signed up for a vegetarian tour of India and his experiences will be shown as a reality TV show, Gordon’s Great Escape, on UK Channel 4.

From Uknetguide.co.uk:

“Since coming to prominence in the TV guides, the chef has never shied away from criticising vegetarianism, with non meat-eaters having borne the brunt of his sharp tongue on more than one occasion.”

“As such, it’s hardly a surprise that producers have decided it would be a good idea to see how the committed carnivore gets on when deprived of his regular meaty fixes, with the forthcoming show ‘Gordon’s Great Escape’ set to follow Ramsay as he embarks on a vegetarian exploration of India.”

How will Gordon get along without his “meaty” fix? Will it make him even more aggressive and hostile towards vegetarians upon his return? Or will he gain an appreciation of diet, after experiencing the spices and flavors that can be combined to create a palatable, meat-free dish?

The show could only get more entertaining if vegan hating Anthony Bourdain tagged along.

Cloris Leachman Book Signing And RecognitionCloris Leachman recently made an appearance at the Escondido Public Library in California to promote and sign her new book, Cloris: My Autobiography.

It’s known that the octogenarian has been a vegetarian for decades and Cloris revealed what prompted her to try the diet.

She was suffering from several medical problems that doctors couldn’t solve, including hay fever, asthma and insomnia. She started a juice fast, which cured her ailments, and the rest is veggie history.

The actress and Dancing With The Stars contestant is a strong advocate of the diet, posed for PETA for the Let Vegetarianism Grow On You campaign, and even chided a fan during her book signing for drinking soda pop.

“Quit, why don’t you?” Cloris admonished. “It will save your life. Start having juice.”

“There are so many great sources of healthy veggie protein, like tofu (not fried), beans, and lentils, that can be seasoned and mixed with vegetables to create savory and filling dishes that would appeal to anyone, vegetarian or not. Kirstie Alley’s vegetarian diet downfall (besides all that butter) was that she lacked balance — enjoy vegetarian enchiladas and bread, but make sure that’s not all you’re eating.”

Are you a vegan who has “cheated” before? Do you shove mom’s dairy cookies down your throat during the holidays, then eat Chciago Soy Dairy Ice Cream for the rest of the year?

Singer-songwriter Bif Naked has just admitted to giving in to some serious yam roll lovin’during her treatment for breast cancer.

It appears that beet juice got a little boring and she needed some spice in her life.

“I’m a raw food vegan — I’ve been doing that a long time — but one month all I wanted was yam rolls, and they’re definitely not raw. To this day, I can barely look at beets. I used to devour beet juice, and ate grated beets on salad every day, but now I can’t stand the smell.”

Hey, nobody said all vegans were perfect vegans. Now who wants to confess?

Gwyneth Paltrow Finally Admits She Hates Vegetables, Eats Rhinos

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

The West Coast premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor, LACMA, Los Angeles, CaliforniaWe have mocked Gwyneth Paltrow more than a few times on her two-faced vegetarianism which has consisted of such acts as saying no to meat publicly, then teaching others to grind turkey patties.

Now, The Spoof, a fictitious news blog, is getting in on the action and has written a hilarious satire where Gwyneth readily admits she hates vegetables and goes to a park in South Africa to eat rhinos.

“Fading actress Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted, after six years of marriage and the same amount of years as a vegetarian, that she does not, in fact, like vegetables.”

“Paltrow claimed her husband took the news surprisingly well and is taking her out for dinner tonight at an all-you-can-eat Game Park in Johannesburg, South Africa.”

“”I’m so hungry I could eat the arse out of a dead rhino!” said Paltrow, licking her lips with glee. Martin had no comment, preferring to simply sulk instead.”

We knew we were going to love Biz Stone once we found out he was vegan. But who knew we’d be jumping and cheering for the Twitter co-founder this much.

Biz is following Wyntergrace Williams‘ lead and lobbying Congress to ensure vegetarian meals are included in school lunches.

Biz sent a letter to Rep. George Miller, chair of the House Education and Labor Committee to support the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act, which would add a vegetarian friendly option to children’s school lunches.

It took a little more than 140 characters for Biz to express himself, but we think he’s done it well based on this excerpt.

“Hundreds of thousands of students across the country don’t eat meat, according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study. However, these young vegetarians often can’t find healthy, meatless meals in the school cafeteria … Even students who aren’t vegetarian would benefit from having low-fat, high-fiber vegetarian options.”

The video recorded by Wyntergrace Williams has aired as a commercial in Rep. George Miller’s district.

2009 Heart Of Green Awards
We told you a long time ago that Alicia Silverstone likes her balls raw, but another raw food staple she enjoys is Nori.

Although her vegan diet book, The Kind Diet, isn’t set to debut until the fall, Alicia just couldn’t wait to spill the vegan refried beans to Fitsguar.com about some of the recipes in it.

“One of the recipes in my book is leftover nori (a type of seaweed) wraps,” Silverstone said. “Anything in the fridge I want to use up, I shove into nori. It’s delicious.”

“It makes your skin look amazing and your hair really strong.”

Yep, Nori is full of good for you stuff like calcium, iron, and magnesium. You can make yourself some awesome veggie sushi or wrap it up and stuff it with veggies and dressing.

And who doesn’t like eating like a star?
