January is almost over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a New Year’s resolution.

Just when most people are starting to break their’s, now’s an equally good time to make one that will benefit you and other life around you.

Poet Benjamin Zephaniah has written an article for the UK Huffington Post, giving his reasons for going meat-free in 2014.

January 18 to 26 marks the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, making the end of the month an even better time to start your new plant-based diet.

People are definitely interested in eliminating meat from their diets, as Zephaniah gives evidence for.

In the past month, UK searches for the word “vegan” have gone up by 30% on Google.

Among the 18-24 year old population, 1 in 6 consider themselves vegetarian, according to a survey by YouGov.

And they are in good company, as famous vegans now include ex Presidents and tech gurus who have changed social media and society.

No one wants the weight of animal cruelty on their shoulders, but they may want to lose a few pounds of extra weight. Going vegan solves both problems at the same time.

Writes Zephaniah:

“We may not be able to right all the world’s wrongs, but when it comes to what we put on our plates, we all have the opportunity to get it right three times a day, simply by eating vegan.”
