Mark Zuckerberg and Biz Stone both topped Vanity Fair’s top 10 in their 100 Most Influential People list for being the brains behind Facebook and Twitter social networking sites, respectively. They also happen to be awesome vegans. Both men have made it easy to tell everybody what you’re doing every minute. So how do you prefer to tell your friends about the recipe for Country Fried Seitan you devour?

Say it in 140 characters? Or just “Like” it?

Mark Zuckerberg tops Vanity Fair’s list of 100 Most Influential People recently published on the magazine’s website.

Born in 1984, Zuckerberg co-founded the popular social networking site Facebook, which is valued at $25 billion and because of his 24% share of the network, Forbes recently named him as the youngest billionaire in the world.

According to Peta, Zuckerberg is also a vegan.

There must be something about passing up the steak for the potatoes among influential techies, because two other vegetarians, Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, and CEO and co-founder of Apple Steve Jobs are listed as #10 and #2, respectively.

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, owns two rescue dogs, Pedro, a one-eyed Chihuahua, and Maggie.

The 140 character guru who’s visit to a farm animal sanctuary turned him vegan gave the New York Times a glimpse into a day in his life, which includes waking up at 7AM to feed his dogs, or risk them getting “feisty.”

Breakfast or any other meal might consist of a combination of southern and Turkish cooking, thanks to his wife’s mixed heritage.

“Lately, it’s been southern style biscuits from scratch. We’re both vegan. Her dad is from Nashville and her mom is from Istanbul, so there’s an interesting range of influence in her cooking.”

Biz failed to say if the rescue dogs get feisty if not given a taste of southern biscuits.

Given the fact both the co-founders of Twitter, Biz Stone and Evan Williams, are vegan and vegetarian,  it’s no surprise their expanded headquarters in San Francisco are very veggie and earth friendly.

The cafe, pictured below, provides lunches for employees, much of which is vegan.

Yes, free vegan lunches are quite the perks, but good luck getting your resume through to one of the hottest tech organizations to launch in the past decade.

Livia Stone is the First Lady of Twitter.

That’s right, she’s married to Biz Stone, co-founder of telling it like it is in 140 characters or less.

Like Biz, Livia shuns meat and is also an animal activist.

Vegansaurus got a chance to talk with her to find out how this 10 year vegan got involved with the vegetarian/animal rights scene.

Why she went VEG:
“Initially I went veg because I realized I didn’t need to kill or exploit animals to live, but as I learned more—especially about the environmental impact of animal agriculture—I can’t believe anyone who is interested in going “green” doesn’t give up or at least reduce the amount of animal products they consume.”

And that picture of the cheesy lasagna that made us thing Biz wasn’t really vegan? Completely dairy free!
“Since I’ve discovered Daiya cheese I’ve been making a mean mac ‘n cheese casserole but generally I’m big on making soups from scratch, especially heirloom tomato soup. For bakesales, just about anything from my cupcake cookbook. The carrot cupcake with cream cheese frosting recipe is amazing!”

Biz Stone was a guest at Farm Sanctuary’s Hoe Down this weekend, and shared a few experiences via Twitter.

The 140 character social media platform co-founder turned vegan after visiting an animal sanctuary in New York.

“These creatures are special just like all of us, and since I don’t need to eat them to live, I’m going to leave them alone,” Stone told SF Gate. “And then there’s the cruelty, which is awful. From then on, I have happily been vegan.”

Stone appearing at the country line dancing event to raise money for abandoned and abused farm animals isn’t his first act of activism.

While an employee of Google Inc. in 2003, Stone convinced execs to put more vegan items on the menu, something he said everyone enjoyed.

“I have found that when vegan options are provided in the workplace, many non-vegans will go for them either because they find them tasty or they appreciate the healthier choice.”

According to its website, ARAMARK, one of the nation’s largest providers of food services to businesses, has several hundred recipes for vegetarian and vegan food that could potentially be served at workplaces where employees demand such fare.

It is also the same company that is responsible for adding so many new vegetarian and vegan options in professional baseball fields this season.

ARAMARK can offer cage-free eggs and has partnered with the Monterray Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program to shift towards sustainable seafood purchases over the next 10 years.

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, will make an appearance at Farm Sanctuary’s California Country Hoe Down in May, a day filled with vegan food and workshops on health and the environment.

According to a press release from the group, Biz turned vegan 10 years ago after a visit to the New York sanctuary, which is home to cows, pigs, goats and other formerly abused and abandoned farm animals.

Twitter co-founder and vegetarian Biz Stone will make a guest appearance at Farm Sanctuary’s California Country Hoe Down, according to green gossip site Ecorazzi.

The event takes place May 1 and May 2 in Orland, California and will feature vegan food, hayrides and an opportunity to take a walk and greet the animals.

There will also be presentations and workshops on the environment, health and animals.

Saturday evening tops off the event with live music and dance.

Time to brush up on those square dancing skills.

Besides Biz, other guests include Jonathan Balcombe, Ph.D., author of Pleasurable Kingdom and Second Nature: The Inner Lives of Animals.
