Dr. Michael Greger is the director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture for the Humane Society of the United States. He publishes DVDs in quiz show formats that give loads of information on the latest findings in diet, health and nutrition.

These may be purchased and 100% of the proceeds benefit the HSUS. In case you didn’t already know it, vegetarian and especially vegans need to remember to take B12 supplements if you’re not eating foods that are rich in the vitamin, which are usually meat and dairy.

That’s right. You heard it. That wasn’t a hallucination, but you might have some if you don’t take that B12.

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin has angered animal rights activists after clubbing a Halibut fish she caught during her Discovery television series, Sara Palin’s Alaska.

According to the Washington Post, In Defense of Animals called the clip a “snuff film” while Alaska fishermen said it was a “humane” way to kill the animal.

Regardless of what side you take, one thing’s for sure. If Palin’s show ratings continue to drop, her televised Alaska experience will surely be clubbed from the network. Viewership dropped 40% during last week’s show.

Joseph Garner, an assistant professor of animal sciences at Purdue University, demonstrated through an experiment that fish do feel pain and respond with different behavior when they do. Like humans, morphine also appears to make them happier when faced with painful stimuli. Surely, the halibut in the video was wondering where its IV pump was during the ordeal.

“For Thanksgiving we have to make a Tofurkey! It doesn’t sound right! It’s gonna be jiggly and weird. I’m from Texas – I’d fry a steak. We eat all casseroles and giblets!”

Jessica Simpson, to Jimmy Fallon, according to People, on how soon to be husband Eric Johnson won’t be eating drumsticks this Thursday as he’s a vegan.

Tofurky.

FYI, Tofurky isn’t jiggly–it’s actually a firm loaf like any other prepared turkey, that comes stuffed with wild rice and bread crumbs and even vegan down to the gravy.

This Dish Is Veg has some tips for cooking the no-bird, which includes alternative methods to the ones on the box.

Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver recalls her favorite movie she starred in during her acting career as Gorillas In The Midst because it got her interested in ape conservation.

In 1987, Weaver traveled to Rwanda to film the movie, based on Dian Fossey, an American zoologist who studied and sought to protect mountain gorillas.

Today, Weaver is the chairperson of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, an organization dedicate to gorilla conservation and protection of its habitat in Africa.

According to the World Wildlife Foundation, the Easternlowland gorillas are most threatened by habitat loss from clearing of the forests for farming and for mining coltan, an alloy used for mobile phones.

The bushmeat trade also destroys the species, as well as collecting baby gorillas for pets, as the parents are killed. Body parts of gorillas are often used in medicine or magical charms for the residents in the area.

Nicole Lapin Proposes Cucumber Sandwiches For All If Queen

Nicole Lapin has discovered she could be television double for Kate Middleton, fiancee of Prince William and the future Queen of England.

This got the vegetarian journalist and television anchor thinking about what she would do if she had were Queen for a day…or a little longer. Some vegans would make everyone eat egg, butter and dairy-free brownies. Lapin just wishes for England to return to its historic roots of eating cucumber sandwiches, citing, “Meat is way too expensive.”

The idea of sticking a cool cuke between two slices of bread may sound dull and boring, but add some vegan cream cheese, sprinkle a dash of pepper and garnish with mint, parsley or watercress and you’ve turned a stiff and stuffy sandwich into one worth stuffing in your mouth, like Vegan Yum Yum did.

Bill Maher Asks Obama To Send Pardoned Turkeys To Sanctuary

Bill Maher

Farm Sanctuary has already extended an offer to President Obama to send this year’s pardoned turkey to its grounds instead of the usual destination for the birds, a Disney theme park.

Now, Bill Maher has written a letter on behalf of PETA, asking the president to consider the birds who, in Maher’s words, have a retirement “as empty as Cher‘s “Farewell” tour” if not sent to a place where trained individuals can properly care for the already neglected animals.

“In recent years, turkeys have simply been shuffled from the pardoning ceremony to displays at pseudo-sanctuaries or theme parks, and many have died less than a year later, before the following year’s turkeys have even made it to the Rose Garden. McDonald’s so-called “Happy Meals” have a longer shelf life.”

“I propose a New Rule: From now on, let’s bring credibility to the ceremony and genuine compassion to “pardoned” turkeys by sending them to a real sanctuary.”

Neil Patrick Harris was a guest on the “The Talk” to discuss his experiences with parenting. The actor and his partner, through the help of a surrogate, are the parents of twins.

With vegan Sara Gilbert and the other ladies of The Talk, Harris explains how he rejected Gilbert’s unconventional advice to raise vegan kids and not vaccinate them.

“You’re a crazy, granola person,” Harris says to Gilbert. “Not to vaccinate for ages and feed them certain weird foods,” he continues when asked what Gilbert recommended, ending with, “You’re a crazy vegan.”

Speaking of vaccinations, the issue over whether a parent should refuse to vaccinate a school attending child is not solely one related to the potential health consequences of the vaccine. Vegetarians and vegans may find vaccines against their principles as some of the formulas have contained animal and even human components to them.

The MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine contains live strains of the virus that is grown in chick embryo cells and then added to a mixture that contains other animal and human cells (gelatin, human albumin, fetal bovine serum).

Yet, another ethical quandary is the use of human fetal tissue in other vaccines.

Two worlds are noticeably missing Taryn Terrell.

Ex Diva Tiffany has dropped being a vegan like the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) cut her from its roster of female wrestlers.

Yes, despite something she worked for three and a half years to accomplish and despite other athletes are thriving on plants, Tiffany felt she had to at least go back to eating organic meat.

You know the story. Blah, blah, something about protein.

Listen to the excuses in an exclusive interview at Diva Dirt.
