Quantcast Kate Middleton

The royal wedding of the year, decade and possibly the century is scheduled to take place this Friday, April 29. That’s the day Prince William and Kate Middleton are scheduled to exchange vows, taking Britain’s most eligible bachelor officially off the market.

Several members of the Royal Family have become known for their charitable and sustainable initiatives and Prince William and Catherine will more than likely follow this lead. PETA India has already petitioned the couple to begin their marriage in an animal-friendly manner, by sending them wedding garments crafted from animal-free silk.

Butter London 3 Free

A British cosmetic company called Butter London is releasing a limited edition nail lacquer symbolizing Kate Middleton‘s long wait before finally agreeing to tie the knot with Prince William.

“Waity Kaity” will be part of Butter London’s “3 Free” collection, meaning it, like all of its lacquers, does not contain three chemicals found in traditional lacquer that are suggested toxins–formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP (Phthales).

Butter London is also a vegan-friendly company which has taken the time to formulate other products without chemicals like parabens, such as “The Master,” “The Mistress,” and “The Madam.”

Kate Middleton Could Use Peace Silk Wedding Fabrics

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, January 24th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Fashion.

Kate Middleton

With Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s wedding approaching soon, many fashion enthusiasts are speculating about the details of the dress.

The UK Daily Mail predicts it will be silk and raises questions about the ethics of such material.

If you’re the extra sensitive vegetarian who puts the ladybug you find on the organic strawberries outside in the grass or still feel guilty that harvesting plants inadvertently kills insect and rodents, you of course treat silk like leather, wool and fur, where the worms that produce it are usually boiled or roasted while inside the cocoon. One figure estimates there are 6,600 worms killed for every kilo of silk harvested.

But there is an alternative and perhaps Middleton will take advantage of it.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are breaking a long tradition in royal weddings that some are speculating has something to do with influence of animal rights groups.

According to Hello Magazine, Kate will travel by car to the ceremony instead of the traditional horse-drawn carriage. Royal brides have arrived via Glass Coach since the early 1900s.

The Telegraph has noted this could also be for security reasons, but it suggests animal welfare could have played a part in the decision.

What are your thoughts?

Is the Royal Family making up for the fur hat the Queen wore during this past Christmas services?

Most fashion, wedding and gossip columnists will have advice for Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s upcoming wedding in April. But the Telegraph’s Tamsin Blanchard has taken planning a step further from genre of flowers, dress design and cocktails.

Imploring the Prince and his fiancee to have a green wedding, Blanchard suggests a vegetarian lunch for the banquet, eco-friendly gowns and other dress by designers like Emma Watson and leather-free shoes from Stella McCartney.

These items are a start, but green weddings can go beyond food and fashion. The venue choice, for example, can cut down on car emissions, electricity and other energy used.

Nicole Lapin has discovered she could be television double for Kate Middleton, fiancee of Prince William and the future Queen of England.

This got the vegetarian journalist and television anchor thinking about what she would do if she had were Queen for a day…or a little longer. Some vegans would make everyone eat egg, butter and dairy-free brownies. Lapin just wishes for England to return to its historic roots of eating cucumber sandwiches, citing, “Meat is way too expensive.”

The idea of sticking a cool cuke between two slices of bread may sound dull and boring, but add some vegan cream cheese, sprinkle a dash of pepper and garnish with mint, parsley or watercress and you’ve turned a stiff and stuffy sandwich into one worth stuffing in your mouth, like Vegan Yum Yum did.
