Tommy Hilfiger Celebrates Fifth Avenue Global Flagship Opening - Red Carpet

Russell Simmons made a Tweet recently discussing the cultural use of the “N-word” among young African-Americans and those in hip hop culture.

“Honestly I’m more concerned about people eating animals or abusing the planet or sitting still for wars then the use of n word”

Russell’s stance on putting issues that affect everyone before any particular group is reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde‘s statement that she didn’t give a falafel about feminism, only meat eaters and non meaters.

However, to make sure no one was offended, Russell followed up with this Tweet:

“I do not like to say hurtful things to people .some are offended by the n word for those who are I apologize”

Any thoughts?

The Simpsons turn Angolan for Africas DStv

David Mirkin, executive producer for The Simpsons has pulled in some great celebrities to guest star on the show including Leonard DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, and Paul McCartney.

McCartney was quite adamant about the conditions of his appearance, though.

He agreed to only do it if Mirkin kept Lisa Simpson a vegetarian for every episode.

“It’s actually Paul McCartney who was responsible for another permanent change,” Mirkin said. “When I asked him to do the vegetarian episode, he agreed but made me promise to keep Lisa as a vegetarian – and I was happy to comply with that because I’m a vegetarian too! Every time I see him, he always checks – and he’s always surrounded by nine or ten lawyers, so it’s quite frightening!”

Lisa is a veg. Apu is a veg. David is a veg. We’re hoping Marge’s twin sisters make the plunge next!

Bruno Not Anti Hummus: Sasha Baron Cohen’s Middle East Visit

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 17th, 2009 in Actors, Humor, Pop Culture.

Bruno: The Movie Australian Premiere

Sasha Baron Cohen’s Bruno features a scene where the old standby vegetarian dish of hummus and pita becomes part of a joke.

Bruno interviews Yossi Alpher, a former Israeli Mossad officer, and Ghassan Khatib, a former Palestinian Cabinet minister during his visit to what he calls, “Middle Earth,” that is intended to make peace.

“Why are you so anti-Hamas?” Bruno asks. “I mean, isn’t pita bread the real enemy here?”

“You think there is a relation between Hamas and Hummus?” Khatib asks.

“Hummus has nothing to do with Hamas,” Alpher responds “It’s a food. We eat it, they eat it.”

“It’s vegetarian, it’s healthy, it’s beans,” Khatib says.

While the vegetarian scene may be humorous, other antics Bruno does in the Middle East, or “Middle Earth,” has already launched a lawsuit from a former member of a militant group who alleges one of Bruno’s jokes about terrorists activity could land him in hot water by both Palestinians and Israeli’s.

Perez Hilton Gone Vegetarian? Not Quite.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, June 29th, 2009 in Authors, Business, Pop Culture.

House Of Mollinari Birthday Extravaganza

Our ears should be ringing off the hook now, because someone’s been talking about us!

Cleveland Vegetarian Examiner Kaitlin Miller wrote up a post on Vegetarian Star she titled, “Has Perez Hilton landed a vegetarian site? Not Quite!”

Kaitlin was humorously referring to who’s basically the founder of gossip websites, Mario Armando Lavandeira, better know as Perez Hilton.com.

“Vegetarianstar.com is a celebrity gossip site very closely mocking Perez Hilton’s popular trash-talking yet humorous blog, except that it is strictly relating to vegetarianism. Fans can track a plethora of different categories, submit polls, comment on photos, articles, and breaking news, and browse around for the newest gossip.”

“Eye-catching headlines that contain big Hollywood names are attracting viewers worldwide, like “Heather Mills Making Vegan Dog Food,” or “Jimmy Kimmel Does The Raunchy Tofu on Late Night Television.” I don’t know about you, but seeing the words “raunchy” and “tofu” together definitely intrigues me.”

Yeah, tofu does it for us, too Kaitlin.

Sorry to disappoint those who thought this was a post talking about Perez Hilton getting his raunchy on with tofu. But when he does…you better believe we’ll be telling you about it.

the_goode_family_cast

The Goode Family premiers tonight on ABC at 9PM EST.

The Goodes are the impossibly and probably a tad bit annoying politically correct liberal family that go out of their way to retain that reputation. They’re all vegans, including the family dog, Che. Hint: Che is a vegan dog who cheats-on the neighborhood pets! They recycle and compost. They even attempt to adopt a child from Africa, but mistakenly get one from South Africa-who happens to be white.

Some vegan, eco-lovers out there might take offense to how the Goodes are portraying the lifestyle, but hey, if we can’t laugh at ourselves we’re in hotter water than global warming can produce.

The Goode Family was created by Mike Judge, the same guy who brought us Beavis and Butt-head and King of The Hill.

Spock, Star Trek’s Vulcan Vegan, Questions His Flesh Eating Ways

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 in Actors, Pop Culture, Videos.

Trekkies unite! The 2009 Star Trek Movie is still in theatres, so put your Vulcan thinking caps on and find a good, logical reason to see the movie.

Vulcans aren’t always the coolheaded creatures they want to be, as Spock proved once when he savored the taste of animal flesh. But at least he questioned his ridiculous ways.

“Please pay no attention, I’m not myself. I’m behaving disgracefully. I have eaten animal flesh and I’ve enjoyed it. What is wrong with me?”

Admitting is the first step, Spock.

Ah, voting is the beauty of a free country.

Unfortunately, postage in the United States is nothing but free, as rates continue to increase.

Fortunately, the good old men and women that won’t let rain, sleet, and snow stop them are great about coming up with neat collector and special edition stamps that make price hikes hurt less.

The Simpsons will soon have their place in postal history and you have the chance to say whether you’d like to pay 44 cents for Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, or Maggie.

We’re rooting for vegetarian Lisa!

Vote here now!

You can also enter to win an autographed limited edition poster by Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening.

Result tallying starts April 13th and the instructions on the website say “vote early and often” so apparently you can left click until your heart’s content for Lisa.

Because she’s really the only Simpson who can say, “Don’t have cow, man,” and mean it.
