Taraji P. Henson

“When I realized what went into the fur on your gloves or on your jacket, what goes into killing those animals, it ripped my heart out. You don’t have to kill an animal because you want to be hot and fly. It’s not the 16th century anymore.  We’ve got central heating for God’s sake. And you can get a fake fur coat. I have one. It’s fabulous.”

Taraji P. Henson, at a party held at Stella McCartney‘s 14th Street Boutique in New York recently. Other guests in attending the bash thrown by PETA include Tim Gunn and Olivia Munn.

Henson looks stunning in any photo, but if you’re interested in seeing, ahem, more of her, view her NSFW anti-fur ad below.

Waka Flocka Flame

Activist ladies, be on the lookout for another male getting naked in the name of animal welfare.

Waka Flocka Flame, southern hip-hop and rap artist best known for his single, “No Hands,” will launch an anti-fur ad with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals later this month.

“Animals should be treated the same as you would a kid,” Waka told XXL. “Would you want someone just to walk up and skin your kid? Hell no!”

Lately, lots of Y chromosome-bearing people have been taking their clothes off in the “Ink No Mink” ads that emphasize their tattoos instead of fur, including Willis McGahee and Chad Ochocinco.

PETA To Blast Donna Karan Offices With Screaming Bunny Noises

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Fur.

If you don’t like the way something is, make some noise!

Literally.

PETA has plans to blast the offices of designer Donna Karan with the noise of screaming rabbits in a protest against Karan’s use of rabbit fur in clothing.

And this event is government approved. The group had to obtain a permit from the city of New York that specifies they can’t get loud enough to break her eardrums, but only enough to annoy her.

Janet Jackson Targeted At Concert By Anti-Fur Activists

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 4th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Female Singers, Fur.

Janet Jackson

Animal rights activists in the Philippines staged a protest outside a Janet Jackson concert recently and also met with the singer’s representatives because she promotes fur through a series of advertisements for the label Blackglama.

The activists wore grim reaper costumes and carried placards reading phrases such as, “Janet: Animals suffer and die on fur farms,” “Janet: Fur is Dead,” and “Fur Shame.”

And yes, if you remember reading previous posts on Janet, she is a vegetarian who sometimes eats vegan and has also publicly gushed over how great vegan cookies, soy milk and faux chicken nuggets taste.

The irony.

The activists say the demand for fur contributes to loss of biodiversity and that the industry uses endangered species.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 in Directors and Producers, Fur.

Steve Aoki PETA Ad

Steve Aoki is a clothing entrepreneur and music producer that can put working with Will.I.Am and Travis Barker on his list of former clients. Now, Aoki can add anti-fur activist to his resume.

Appearing in an ad more modest than what some of his predecessors posed in, Aoki says he’d rather be arrested than wear fur.

“I’ve been a supporter of PETA ever since I got turned on to animal rights when I was 14,” Aoki said. “After reading Ingrid Newkirk’s book in high school, PETA became more and more an influence throughout my adolescence. Now over 15 years later, I am still a supporter and proud to be a spokesperson for peta2.”

This week must be the week to get naked in the name of saying “No” to fur.

Earlier we brought you the news of the NFL’s Willis McGahee’s nude anti-fur ad and now, we present you with Academy Award nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, who’s had roles in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself.

“I don’t think a living being should suffer for the sake of fashion, period,” Henson said. “End of story.”

“When I realized what went into—not just, we’re not just even talking about a full-length fur coat, I’m talking about just … fur on your gloves or on your jacket or—what goes into making that little piece of fur ripped my heart out. And as humans, we have control. What if someone said, ‘Black skin is the new fur’?”

The behind the scenes video interview with Henson can be viewed below.

Joanna Krupa Calls Fur Wearing Kanye “Mutated, 2-Legged Stuff Animal”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 7th, 2011 in Actresses, Fur, Models.

Joanna Krupa

Kanye West made a fool of himself when photos of him wearing a long mink coat were posted online, launching a tirade from Twitter users.

Joanna Krupa had a lot more to say than 140 characters, and she started by telling Fox411.com, “If Kanye is wearing a real fur coat — and that’s what it looks like — then I think he’s a man without heart, soul or any common sense.”
