rickscabaretuk72Rick’s Cabaret NYC means business.

The only publicly traded chain of strip joints on NASDAQ (under the symbol RICK, if you’re interested in adding more stock to your rather bare (hahaha) portfolio) is getting down to business about animal fur.

It’s handpicked seven lovely ladies to star in a PETA anti-fur ad, who’d rather go topless than wear fur.

It’s probably a safe bet that most men would rather see them topless than wearing fur.

So gentlemen, the next time you need an excuse to go one of Rick’s strip joints, just tell the lady you believe in supporting humane entertainment companies who employ women who agree that fur is cruel and archaic.

Tell her you are taking a stand against an industry where much of the product is imported from countries with no animal welfare laws, and the animals are subjected to painful practices to obtain their pelts, such as being skinned alive.

It’s not about guys night out. It’s about taking a moral stance.

640_dita_peta2Dita Von Teese was spotted having lunch at Tobey Maguire’s favorite vegan restaurant, Real Food Daily.

We have to give the burlesque beauty entertainer both a thumbs up and thumbs down.

Von Teese worked with PETA in a campaign to encourage pet owners to spay and neuter their animals and was also set to star in a Beauty Without Cruelty campaign in cooporation with Chanel, to show how animal cruelty was unnecessary in the cosmetic industry.

But she has a collection of vintage furs she’s not ashamed to discuss.

“PETA’s totally aware of me,” she once told PEOPLE. “I’m not working with PETA to tell people to be vegetarians or to stop wearing fur. I am there to strictly speak about spaying and neutering your pets.”

PETA had responded by saying, “She said she has some vintage furs she wears occasionally. PETA often works with a celebrity on an issue they feel comfortable supporting, whether it’s supporting spaying and neutering, or speaking out against products that are tested on animals. So they may not be an animal rights activist, but their contribution to any of our campaigns is appreciated.”

Could her recent visit to a vegan restaurant mean she’s leaning towards vegetarianism and will feel comfortable supporting this issue in the future?

If so, this beauty could make a nude, pro-vegetarian ad that would make a habitual steak eater try tempeh.

Tim Gunn Tells How To Get The Faux Caveman Look

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 26th, 2009 in Fashion, Fur, Videos.

Vegan, ethical blogger Discerning Brute caught up with fashion expert and Project Runway’s Tim Gunn during Fashion Week in New York to get his thoughts on fur in the fashion industry.

Gunn has recorded an anti-fur video in the past and has such a fearful reputation, fur wearing celebrities run the opposite direction when they see him.

He explained to The Brute that while he doesn’t necessarily advocate fake fur, there are plenty out there for those interested in getting that “cavemen look.”

“If someone wants to look like a cavemen…if that’s the look that they want, they sure have a good one [selection of fake fur],” Gunn said.

Check out the video to hear Tim talk, and if you’re a speed reader, you can view the credit roll that appears in the video listing all the fur-free fashion designers.

Jamie Bamber Shows His Full Fleet In Protest Against Fur

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 in Actors, Fur.

jamiebamberuk300_reduced Battlestar Galactica actor Jamie Bamber, who played Lee “Apollo” Adama, is currently starring in a new role as the half naked man urging the Queen’s guards not to put any clothes on either.

Because uniformed guards are sexy, but naked guards are even better.

Technically, he’s urging the Queens’ guards not to put any fur on-their heads. The hats worn by the guards are made from Canadian black bear fur. And as you probably guessed, the bears weren’t just given a “haircut” and sent back into the wilderness.

It takes an entire bear hide to make a single cap.

“I initially decided to do the PETA ad because a great friend of mine in L.A., Lucy Davis, had just done a similar ad, and I love Lucy and it was a cause I didn’t know about – I’ll be honest,” Bomber said in an interview.

“So as soon as Lucy opened my eyes, I was thrilled to join her and do my bit.”

“The obvious alternative is to make caps out of faux fur. You know, use synthetic materials to avoid killing a beautiful animal. They’re not to keep warm. It’s not particularly freezing outside Buckingham Palace. You could wear something else. And you could certainly wear faux fur.”

Bamber isn’t the first celebrity to take an interest in the hats the guards wear. US singer Pink has also expressed her concern.

You can sign a petition urging officials to use hats from faux fur. Apparently, all the talk is working. The Minister of Defense has said it was open to the idea of a synthetic material that can be worn in all weather.

Mariah Carey, Kim Cattrall Donate Old Coats For London Fashion Week

Neighborhood Inaugural Ball

While the effectiveness of throwing flour in a fur wearing celebrity’s face is questionable, PETA anti-fur campaigns do work!

Mariah Carey and Kim Cattrall have graciously donated their old fur coats to the latest campaign, “Fur Is a Drag,” premiering this Friday during London Fashion week.

The coats will be worn by actors in a satirical play about models on the fashion runway. The “models” will be cross dressers and the coats will be accessorized with paint and fur traps.

Ethical designer Stella McCartney will be providing the shoes, which we can only assume will be some pretty large sizes, considering the “queens” have feet bigger than the average lady’s.

Although Mariah and Kim wore fur in the past, it appears they’ve had a change in heart.

The Sex & The City star Kim Cattrall, opened a Harrod’s department store sale last summer, the same store Leona Lewis turned down over a million dollars to perform at because it sells fur.

Lily Allen Doesn’t Make Us “Smile” With Vicious Fur Hat

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, February 15th, 2009 in Female Singers, Fur.

Lily Allen has fun in the snow

English singer-songwriter Lily Allen was playing in the snow on Primose Hill earlier this month to celebrate the success of her single, “The Fear” before, before going to the KOKO club in Camden Town, London.

However, there are no animals celebrating with her as that’s real fur on her head!

Surely doesn’t put a Smile on our faces.

She’s been seen with her Prada fox fur hat before, so you’d think the nasty comments she’s generated online might deter her from doing so.

No such luck.

She described the hat as “viciously expensive.”

While expensive is often relative to your income, “vicious” couldn’t be closer to the truth.

Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher On Worst Dressed List

59th Berlin Film Festival - 'Happy Tears' Premiere

Celebrities may have tons of money in the bank, but some of them aren’t using it to hire a good wardrobe coordinator, especially a compassionate coordinator.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher currently top the worst dressed list for PETA, in a contest that’s running through March 2nd.

“She may be a cougar, but that’s not helping fur-loving Demi Moore in the eyes of animal lovers,” PETA said in a statement to Access Hollywood.

Demi is the first fur lady, while her husband Ashton comes in second because he was spotted “skulking around Sundance last month wearing a gigantic coat made of coyote fur.”

The competition, which awards the dishonor to celebs who sport every animal in the forest, crowned Aretha Franklin as queen last year with Eva Longoria Parker, Kate Moss, and Lindsay Lohan not far behind her.

Pink’s Ex-Hubby Carey Hart Gets Inked Not Minked

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Business, Fur, Reality TV.

careyhartpetafur721Ladies we know you don’t get enough of your naked men from PETA, but here’s a little something to satisfy.

Carey Hart, ex-husband to singer Pink, has recently teamed up with PETA to raise awareness of using fur in fashion by inviting you to consider wearing your own permanent coat-of tattoos.

“No one’s expecting you to be the perfect citizen…just living consciously [as much as you can].”

Hart got into animal rights through Pink, and the two of them own three dogs.

“It’s just ridiculous, you know?” he says of the fur industry. “It’s like you’re gonna destroy animals so that you can look cool in the nightclubs or you can look cool walking down the street in New York. You know I don’t get behind that. I think it’s very petty and very shallow. And then once I saw the investigation and the actual process it just disgusted me.”

You can view the video of Hart talking more about animals, fur, and looking hot at peta.org.
