Missy Higgins Fronts New PETA Anti-Fur Ad With Best Friend Izzy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 17th, 2009 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Fur.

We admit we’re in love with Missy Higgins. But what’s not to love about her?

A vegan with a beautiful voice and equally talented song writing skills, she’s no stranger to animal issues either. Remember when she got cuddly with the piggy?

Now she’s cozying up with Izzy the dog, and both want to convey a serious message about animals and the fur industry.

“If you wouldn’t wear your dog, please don’t wear any fur,” reads the ad.

“The only difference between your “best friend” and animals killed for their fur is how we treat them. All animals suffer and feel pain. Please don’t wear any fur or fur trim.”

Angelina Jolie Looks Synchill-tillating On Salt Set

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 in Actresses, Fur.

Angelina Jolie filming in New York City

Angelina Jolie is looking awfully furry these days.

She wore this fur-lined poncho and matching Russian style winter fur hat while filming on the set of her new spy thriller movie, Salt.

But while this looks like chinchilla, it’s actually a fake, or “synchilla.”

Jolie’s reps confirmed to PETA that Jolie only wears her own skin and that hat and coat are both synthetic.

“The chinchilla is actually synchilla,” PETA blogged.

Hats off (or maybe on, in this case) to Angelina for keeping it faux real!

Stella McCartney Fans Don’t Dress For The Occasion

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 6th, 2009 in Fashion, Fur.

Natural Resources Defense Council 11th Annual Forces For Nature Benefit

Green activist Sloan Barnett recently hosted a party at Neiman Marcus to honor ethical fashion designer Stella McCartney.

Now anyone who hasn’t had their head in a sandbox knows vegetarian Stella’s not about killing animals and putting them in her clothing line. So you would think anyone attending a party for her would show respect and do the same. Not so, according to sfgate.com:

“The 37-year-old daughter of Sir Paul McCartney wore black – slouchy top and harem pants – with her hair in a bun and little makeup, an understated British style that was just the opposite of many of those who attended, decked out in Rodarte, Chanel and the occasional (gasp!) fur. Guess they didn’t get the memo: McCartney is a vegetarian who eschews leather.”

Yikes! Maybe parties like these should have eco bouncers.

Whoopi Goldberg Is A Fur-Free Legend

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 in Actresses, Comedians, Fur.

We know Whoopi Goldberg likes vegan beauty products, and now we know she’s a fur-free beauty queen as well.

Legends, a play that had some trouble getting itself on the Broadway stage, finally made its debut recently starring Whoopi, and drag queen faves Charles Busch and Lypsinka.

Pictured here you’ll find the queens covered in what appears to be fur, but just like a lot of other fake things about drag queens, those coats are far from the real thing, courtesy of Donna Salyers’ Fabulous Furs.

PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews said, “When Lypsinka heard about all the mink that was going to be used in the show, she asked PETA to help make sure that the fur was as fake as the leading ladies.”

PETA directed Lypsinka to Donna’s Faux Furs, who’s furs have been worn by celebrities such as Kellie Pickler.

Let’s give it up for Lypsinka for remembering the animals!

The one night only revival of Legends was performed at New York’s Town Hall and proceeds benefited Friends In Deed, a crisis center for people with life threatening illnesses.

Khloe Kardashian Keeping Up With Fur-Free On Reality Show

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 in Fur, Reality TV.

Khloe Kardashian Unveils Her PETA Fur? Id Rather Go Naked Billboard

Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian recently used her E! television series, Keeping Up With The Kardashians to highlight the importance of being fur-free.

Khloe showed the video footage of fur farms that caused her to give up wearing another animal’s skin.

Awesome, that she’s using the show to spread the news!

She also talked about the experience stripping down to her bare booty for a PETA anti-fur ad, admitting it was hard getting naked at first, but in the end, she was glad she could partake in the opportunity to help animals.

Plus, it’s made her feel a lot better about her body.

“It really helped me be comfortable in my own skin,” said Khloe, who is also working on becoming vegetarian. “In turn, I really hope this helps animals keep their skin.”

Remember, you don’t have to put your naked self on a poster to be kind to animals.

There are plenty of synthetic fashions out there that are both cute and practical.

And let’s not forget the fake furs celebrities like Kellie Pickler have been seen wearing.

If stars can look great in their own skin, so can you.

Bluewater Comic Gals Bare All In Anti-Fur Ad

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 9th, 2009 in Fur, Misc Artists and Performers, Pop Culture.

petaadfinal1

Is PETA running out of famous ladies to take their clothes off? Now, comic book characters are being recruited.

A geek’s dream come true, the women of Bluewater Comics have volunteered to bare all against the fur industry.

You might be familiar with Bluewater comics for their sequels to some of Hollywood mythology like The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Clash of the Titans, and Jason and the Argonauts or their monthly 10th Muse books.

Characters featured here are Emma Sonnet from 10th Muse, Diana Moore of JudoGirl, Scarlet of VSS: Nemesis Rising, and Isis from the Legend of Isis.

Oh, if only mom knew the comics her son read in this day and age. And she was only worried about dirty magazines under the bed.

“Stolen for Fashion”—Learn More at PETA.org.
It’s almost blasphemous to say it’s a “cute” ad, because obviously there’s nothing cute about killing an animal for its pelt.

But in this new cute PETA ad starring Ricky Gervais and singer Pink, at least the animals lived through it to fight back.

Gervais plays the rabbit who snatches his fur coat back from a man, and Pink the alligator who claims a purse a woman is holding made from her skin. No word if she gave the cash back inside it or not.

Pink is already a vegetarian and Ricky has been toying with the idea of it, feeling uncomfortable eating meat that still looks like an animal. What do you think? Is this video a step towards Ricky living the vida vega?

Madonna Furriest Of All: Tops Worst Dressed List

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 5th, 2009 in Fur.

Madonna, Lourdes Leon and baby David

She may be strict when it comes to what goes into the childrens’ bodies, but on the issue of what’s outside, Madonna appears lax.

Madge was named “Worst Dressed” Celebrity of 2009 in a poll where PETA readers voted, based on the amount of animal clothing the celebs wore.

Madonna beat out other fur wearing celebs, such as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kanye West, and Elizabeth Hurley.

From peta.org:

“When you see Madonna in fur, you realize why nobody has copied her style since 1984. We know that she’s on the prowl for a young cub, but someone needs to tell Madge that wearing fur doesn’t make you a cougar.”

You can see who else topped the list, as well as “vote again” if you don’t agree with the results at peta.org.
