Heather Mills Making Vegan Dog Food

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 in Business, Chefs, Food & Drink, Models.

Genesis Awards 2009

Heather Mills recently Tweeted about her plans to come out with a vegan dog food brand.

Yay for Fido, Fluffy, and Max!

Heather didn’t give any specifics when she replied to one of her followers on Twitter, just that a brand was in the works.

A vegan restaurant opening next month, frozen food products to come, and veggie dog chow in the creative draft phase. Could Heather be on her way to having her own vegan empire?

Several veg celebrities have vegan dogs, including Alicia Silverstone, Paul McCartney, and Bollywood babe Shahid Kapoor

Alicia Silverstone claims her dogs pass less gas because of their vegan diet, which some pet owners believe is the only way to go. If they won’t let an animal suffer for their own food, why should it be any different for their canine friends?

Heather Mills Vegan Meals At V-Bites Will Taste Like Meat

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 in Business, Chefs, Food & Drink, Models, Restaurants.

Heather Mills Hosts Healthy Meal Cook-A-Thon with students in The Bronx

Heather Mills‘ vegan restaurant in the UK, V-Bites, is set to open next month and Heather’s been running her vegan butt off trying to get everything ready, especially the menu.

Heather says one thing that might surprise meat eaters is that the substitute meats she’ll be cooking and serving at V-Bites will taste just like the real deal.

“What is definitely going to shock people is the meat replacements,” she told Metro. “They have a real meat taste to them.”

Fake meats come in handy for those who went veg for reasons other than disliking the taste of meat.

And there’s certainly no shortage of varieties to choose from: fake turkey, chicken, bacon, even gourmet creations like faux chicken cordon blue.

What’s your favorite fake meat?

Those of you who follow the religious sect known as treehugger.com know Graham Hill is the smart, environment lovin’ chap who founded the website for all the latest green news and information.

Although Graham isn’t a complete vegetarian, he flexes and calls himself a “weekday vegetarian,”-saving the bacon for Sunday brunch.

Eating vegetarian at least during the week is just one of the ways Graham recommends going greener.

He also shops at his local farmers’ market and buys organic produce.

And don’t worry, you big city dwellers, who think because you’re living the fast paced life, you’re being too rough on the planet.

Graham thinks cities are greener because more people use public transportation or bike and apartments are smaller, so there’s less room to fill up with useless junk. Plus, there’s a plethora of organic shops to frequent on every corner.

“You can find some weird vegan bakery, if you want to,” Hill said.

Before you run off to locate that vegan bakery with weirdos, read the rest of Graham’s feature story at the observer.com.

Matthew Fazzi Of Taking Back Sunday Needs VegOut iPhone App

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Business, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

D*CODED Launch Event Featuring Taking Back Sunday

Taking Back Sunday is about to release their newest album, New Again, on June 2nd.

Popwreckoning got a chance to chat with guitarist and back up vocalist Matthew Fazzi (shown on the right) before he jammed at a show in Kansas City.

Fazzi must work up an appetite during shows, because he was asking about checking out vegetarian restaurants afterwards.

PW: Well, you’ll have to be sure to check out the city after the show.
MF: Yeah! Do you have any suggestions?
PW: What do you like to do?
MF: I’m vegetarian, so if you know any vegetarian places that would be great. Parks, historical landmarks…

Of course, if Fazzi has an iphone (and like, OMG, who doesn’t?), he can install the VegOut application that lets you search for vegetarian and vegan restaurants and stores in any city or state.

VegOut was created by Champ Bennett, another musician and software designer on the side, after he found finding somewhere to eat in Europe a royal pain.

Musicians know best, Matthew. Take it from someone in the club and get VegOut already!

Update: Photo has been updated. Thanks guys.

Dan Matthews: Get Obamas Naked, Madonna Is Middle Aged Witch

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 in Animal Issues, Business.

Alec Baldwin Hosts A Screening Of Blinders

Dan Matthews, senior vice president of PETA, gave metro.co.uk a few minutes of his time to talk about dressing up as a vegetable, getting arrested, loving Pamela Anderson and hating Madonna.

Not to mention getting Mr. and Mrs. President Obama in the nude for a campaign against fur.

There’s really too much to mention here, so we’ll summarize.

Next celebrity he wants to get naked for PETA
Michelle Obama would be awesome. She doesn’t wear fur and she’s so cool. We could go for the two of them, her and Barack.

Countries with the best jails
My favourite was in Hong Kong. They brought us great vegan meals and then, because we didn’t have any clothes from the naked protest, they gave us Hong Kong police department T-shirts, which were really cool.

Love Don’t Live Here Anymore For Madonna
I was a fan of Madonna in the 1980s but she became this middle-aged witch who thought her style should be defined by wearing fur coats and eating foie gras. We had a long argument over her glamorising bullfighting in her music videos.

Ouch!

Read who else is on Dan’s fur enemy list at metro.co.uk.

Diane Keaton Can Have Chinese Chicken And Fake Meat It Too

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 21st, 2009 in Actresses, Business, Food & Drink.

15th Annual Women In Hollywood Event - Inside

Diane Keaton recently gave an interview with DesMoinesregister.com while eating a “Chinese chicken salad without the chicken.”

When you take the meat off salads with “meaty” names, you’re usually left with rabbit leaves-no dried fruit, nuts, beans or any other delicious additions a veggie salad would include.

Sounds pretty bland, but ’cause Diane’s veg, she had to get her salad sin pollo.

Wonder if she knows she can have her Chinese Chicken flavor and (fake) meat it too?

Famous veg Doc Dr. John McDougall has a line of soups out and one of his low sodium delights is Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup. A description from Rightfoods.com says, “Tasty sesame, ginger and green onions give this vegetarian Chinese Noodle Soup a delicious Asian flair. Only 1 g fat, 140 calories and 360 mg sodium.”

Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup, as well as every McDougall soup, is vegan and available on the shelves at your local grocery. You can also order online.

Poor Diane. Someone’s gotta tell her to ditch the rabbit leaves and go for the faux real Chinese Chicken next time.
