National Vegetarian Week is an annual event designed to raise awareness of the benefits of a meat free diet.

So take your tofu sandwiches to work and waive it your co-workers faces. Start conversations about rennet and cheese. If you’re really brave, wear some lettuce wraps and walk around town. Er, maybe not. It’s getting hot outside and lettuce wilts…then shrinks. Don’t want to spend the week in jail, now.

If you live near Brighton in England, you have it made this weekend as visiting the Foodie Festival will be like going to the grocery store and getting samples on every aisle.

Heather Mills will be giving visitors a taste of what they’ll receive once her new vegan restaurant, V-Bites, opens. She might also be sharing some dirty secrets of her ex, Paul McCartney.

“Audience members will be able to chat to the chefs, so it should be an interesting preview of what she plans to do with her new venture. Not to mention a little insight into what Paul used to get for his tea,” said one Brighton, local, according to hellomagazine.com.

Vegan food and ex gossip? A Saturday couldn’t get any better.

Heather will be sharing the kitchen with other  local chefs, including Sussex chef of the year, Ben Goldsmith.

We know there will always be hot chicks at the yoga studio Russell Simmons visits, but now we know exactly where to find them.

The hip hop businessman likes putting himself into a pretzel at Jivamukti Yoga School in New York city where he can also visit their Vegan Café, featuring veggie soups and sandwiches.

If you’re not hungry, you can always get in the mood to shop at the retail store and pick up some vegan pet food or clothing made from natural and sustainable resources like hemp.

The founders of the school, Sharon Gannon and David Life, regularly host benefits for animal and environmental causes.

Lots of star sighting can take place here as celebrities like Sting and Uma Thurman have been known to pay a visit.

Vegan desserts are a weakness for anyone. From Uncle Eddie’s cookies to So Delicious Ice Cream to Amy’s new vegan cakes, you could easily rack up the grocery bill is sugar coated goodies and forget all the other “essentials” you came for.

Alicia Silverstone apparently is just as mortal as the rest of us and is a big fan of “Snickrz,” a cake made with chocolate, peanut butter, caramel and nuts.

We know this because raw foods chef Stephen Hauptfuhr has told all to the Los Angeles Times blog. Hauptfuhr opened a raw vegan foods catering company, Mooi, after hosting dozens of dinner parties at  his home and realizing that he could charge his friends, but he could make even more money charging others (haha, uh, we added that last revelation).

Some items on his catering menu include beet fettuccine with cilantro pesto and chocolate chili tacos with marinated greens

Oh, yeah, let’s not forget about the desserts, which are sold at the Elf cafe in LA (makes us think the Keebler elves went vegan and quit to work for someone else).

Soon Hauptfuhr will be opening his own cafe.

Heather Mills just dropped the V word.

She announced recently that the name of her new vegan restaurant housed in an old fish eatery will be named “V-Bites,” which we can only assume is short for Vegan Bites.

After hearing what Mills plans to incorporate into V-Bites, it sounds if Paul McCartney’s ex wants a restaurant and learning center all rolled into one.

The restaurant will feature several rooms, including an interactive center where children can learn about fruits and vegetables through touch screen programs on a computer.

“It’s for everybody,” she said, according to theargus.co.uk. “It will be very family orientated during the day but it will be for all ages. My grandmother lived here for 38 years so I really want it to be somewhere elderly people can go as well.”

“It is going to be really funky, with nice music and ambiance and good staff.”

We’re thrilled that Heather’s plans are finally coming to fruition, but we hope she’s not getting in over her head. In addition to the restaurant and learning center, she wants an outdoor ice rink in the winter. And we thought this was just going to be a restaurant, not a mall. Perhaps it’s her way of encouraging exercise as well as healthy eating.

But all is good in the land of vegan food, so we’ll be cheering for Heather long after she opens her doors for business.

Although not as active in the film industry as her siblings, Liberty Lord Phoenix (shown on left), sister of Joaquin Phoenix, has film credits from the 80s, including Kate’s Secret and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

Not that she would have time for that anyway, as this lady has just celebrated the second anniversary of her business, Indigo Green Store in Gainesville, Florida. Her store specializes in environmentally friendly and non-toxic building and home supplies and gifts.

Indigo’s shelves are stocked with eco-friendly products from natural based cleaners to bamboo flooring

Liberty credits her parents for her success and awareness of what it means to be a responsible citizen of the planet.

“Both of my parents raised me vegan and have taught me to love and respect the Earth through not eating animals, recycling, organic gardening, conserving resources and doing all I can on a daily basis to help reduce my impact,” she said.

Good to know she’s appreciative of mom and pop’s teachings now, but wonder if she rebelled with a cheese pizza in her youth like Joaquin did?

It’s that time again where Hollywood’s meatless get turned into pieces of meat and compete in PETA’s annual Sexiest Vegetarian contest.

As always, there’s both a male and female category and Mr. I Cook Meals At Home Milo Ventimiglia is vying for your votes, competing against people like Tobey Maguire, Russell Simmons, and Bryan Adams.

Hopefully, the ladies won’t get into too many catfights, as some of the veg sex kittens in the ring are Alanis Morissette, Carrie Underwood, and Chelsea Clinton.
