Lipton tea

Activism works. And sometimes it works quite quickly.

Last month, we brought you the news about Lipton conducting animal tests with its teas in an effort to prove the beverage treated several ailments like high cholesterol and bowel issues. Unilever, the parent company of Lipton, has made the announcement it is no longer conducting these tests on animals, which included specifically breeding the animals to have certain medical conditions and purposely exposing them to toxins to see if Lipton tea would cure these conditions.

What do you get when you take an ex-corporate attorney who starts up a practice in an old shoe store in the middle of a seedy neighborhood?

A perfect lesson on humane mouse traps!

Of course that was your first answer.

“Harry’s Law” is a new NBC drama starring Kathy Bates as a former patent attorney fired from her old firm and forced to start over solo. During the pilot, we learn she’s started a practice in a store where the previous evicted tenant left more than hundreds of shoes behind. There is a rat problem!

Bate’s character Harriet Korn is a gun-toting granny, so she whips out the pistol one day and the rat problem is gone, advising an associate she  took care of the problem and it’s time to “call PETA,” after doing so.

Taraji P. Henson

This week must be the week to get naked in the name of saying “No” to fur.

Earlier we brought you the news of the NFL’s Willis McGahee’s nude anti-fur ad and now, we present you with Academy Award nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, who’s had roles in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself.

“I don’t think a living being should suffer for the sake of fashion, period,” Henson said. “End of story.”

“When I realized what went into—not just, we’re not just even talking about a full-length fur coat, I’m talking about just … fur on your gloves or on your jacket or—what goes into making that little piece of fur ripped my heart out. And as humans, we have control. What if someone said, ‘Black skin is the new fur’?”

The behind the scenes video interview with Henson can be viewed below.

Hal Sparks Thinks Factory Farming Is No Joke (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, January 27th, 2011 in Actors, Animal Issues, Comedians, Farming, Food & Drink, Videos.

Hal SparksHal Sparks thinks factory farming is no joke.

During one of his comedic performances, Sparks made humor of poor diets consisting of too many animal products. But in an interview he reveals the effects of raising animals for food is no laughing matter.

“The biggest issue for me is factory farming,” Sparks. “Because I can’t find an angle on it–and I dare anyone else to–that actually supports it in any way. It doesn’t make food cheaper and safer. It doesn’t make the environment better. It harms the people who consume it as well as the people who process it. And it’s horrible to the animals.”

What’s Sparks’ advice for the dying individual who wishes he’d had more time to spend with the family? Watch the clip below to find out.

Willis McGahee Chooses Ink, Not Mink

Men, if you want your girlfriends and wives to get into watching sports with you, just petition the NFL, NBA and other professional sports organizations to ban clothing during game time.

NFL running back Willis McGahee stars in this anti-fur ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. He joins a long list of celebrities showing off their tattoos for the animal rights group’s ads that advocate ink over mink and other types of fur.

“I don’t think they understand where it comes from or how they treat the animal to get the fur,” McGahee says in a behind the scenes interview with PETA, referring to the discussion that sparks when he sees other celebrities wearing fur and some of the methods in which fur is obtained, such as electrocution or skinning them alive.
