Janet Jackson Targeted At Concert By Anti-Fur Activists

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 4th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Female Singers, Fur.

Janet Jackson

Animal rights activists in the Philippines staged a protest outside a Janet Jackson concert recently and also met with the singer’s representatives because she promotes fur through a series of advertisements for the label Blackglama.

The activists wore grim reaper costumes and carried placards reading phrases such as, “Janet: Animals suffer and die on fur farms,” “Janet: Fur is Dead,” and “Fur Shame.”

And yes, if you remember reading previous posts on Janet, she is a vegetarian who sometimes eats vegan and has also publicly gushed over how great vegan cookies, soy milk and faux chicken nuggets taste.

The irony.

The activists say the demand for fur contributes to loss of biodiversity and that the industry uses endangered species.

“The Oprah Winfrey Show” Vegan Episode (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Food & Drink, Videos.

A good  portion of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” where Oprah‘s staff went vegan for a week is now posted online.

Scenes of Oprah’s staff eating vegan in the Harpo cafeteria, getting coached by Kathy Freston, the discussion with Michael Pollan and Lisa Ling‘s glimpse into a meat processing plant are all included.

Cargill, one of the largest producers of meat products, agreed to let the cameras behind the scenes when 20 other producers refused.

There was only one graphic part that was not allowed to be shown on camera, and that was stunning the cow before it was slaughtered. However, Ling’s reaction to the ordeal was caught on camera. And it does say much.

Man, is Sarah Palin a great inspiration to vegetarians. No, really.

In a post written at vegetarian.about.com, readers were invited to reveal the moment that made them go veg.

Jane Lynch

The lean, mean cheerleader coach on Glee is encouraging officials at the USA Network to save millions of dogs from being euthanized every year in shelters.

Jane Lynch wrote a letter to the network asking it to air a PETA ad during the Westminster Dog Show that encourages adoption in a rather dark, but truthful way by asking, “If you buy a dog, what will you do with the shelter dog you kill?”

“Every time a Westminster viewer rushes out to a pet store or breeder to purchase a dog like the one he or she saw prancing around at Madison Square Garden, a dog in a shelter joins the more than 4 million animals who must be euthanized each year because of a lack of good homes,” Lynch wrote.
