Dear Abby Carnivore Needs Humane Bug Solution For Wife

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 1st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Humor, Merchandise, Offbeat.

Abigail Van Buren

When one spouse turns vegetarian, life may be a little difficult for the remaining carnivorous one.

Who will cook the local insects, for example.

In Dear Abby‘s April Fool’s edition, a man from Arkansas complains about his vegetarian wife, who gained weight and refuses to kill the roaches around the house.

What’s Abby’s advice?

“I’ll let you know if I hear from anyone who wants to weigh in on your problem. But in the meantime, you’ll have to cook your own steaks and kill your own insects.”

Arkansas Carnivore should give the No Kill Bugbuster to his wife for her birthday or their next anniversary.

Vegetarian Star recommends giving it sooner as a surprise, “Just because I love you,” gift before the bugs multiply any more.

The wife can suck up the bugs and transplant them elsewhere without having to compromise on her no kill philosophy.

The 6th Annual ''Pedigree Adoption Drive' New York

Carrie Underwood has donated $10,000 dollars to the Bideawee Manhattan Animal Shelter in Manhattan, New York.

The shelter was grateful for Underwood’s generous donation, and hopes her fans follow her lead.

“We would hope that Carrie Underwood’s fans, who see that she has a dog already, would be interested in coming to shelter and getting a pet through a shelter as opposed to a pet store or a breeder” said Renee Collins, adoption center manager for Bideawee.

According to Popcrunch, Underwood’s Chihuahua named Ace is set to be the ring bearer in her upcoming wedding.

Katy Perry Rides Elephant At Perez Hilton Carn-Evil Birthday Party

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

Katy Perry attends the 23rd annual Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles

Katy Perry arrived at gossip blogger Perez Hilton‘s 32 Carn-Evil themed birthday bash on top an elephant.

One has to wonder if Perry already had her social drinking experience before she got there, given her choice of transportation.

Besides the obvious unanswered questions like where she parked it, did it like the hors d’ oeuvres, and did it defecate in the appropriate elephant litter box, you have to wonder how the pachyderm coped with all the noise and excitement of the party.

Commenters on PeoplePets figured the festivities were a real downer–for the elephant.

“from atop the elephant, who, according to one witness, “looked perturbed.” I’m sure the poor elephant was..”

“Katy Perry is quite the weirdo isn’t she… always out for the shock factor……Why does she have to exploit animals when doing so? Elephants should be left in the wild or a zoo if that is the last resort, not in a Circus, and not for hire for entertainment purposes. Why don’t these people get a real life!”

Whether the elephant was perturbed from the party entirely or just Lady Gaga‘s newest outfit was not reported.

The next time Perry’s invited to a party, she should leave the elephant at home in the wild or a sanctuary.

It doesn’t mind being a homebody.

McDonalds Prepares Chipotle For IPO

Chipotle founder, co-CEO and co-chair Steve Ells says the pork sourced for their products is obtained from Niman Ranch, a small network of family farms that raise their pigs on open pastures or deeply bedded barns, feed them vegetarian diets and give them no hormones or antibiotics.

After switching to this supplier, Ells found sales increased even after having to charge an extra dollar to cover the cost of the non factory farmed meat.

Paul Wills, manager of Niman Ranch Pork Company, is a contributor in Moby and Miyun Park‘s edited collection of essays, Gristle, where he discusses the strain big farms put on small family ones.

Although Wills may be a fish out of water in a book edited by a vegan with a vegetarian slant, the experience with Chipotle restaurant teaches us that the more humane way to raise an animal for food not only puts less stress on the organism and the environment, but results in more satisfaction for the consumer.

Niman Ranch’s “ethical meat” is not a vegetarian carnita, but it’s a step forward in taking better care of the world and every living thing, including part time vegetarians, that inhabits it.

Mike Mann May Give PETA Sex (.com) For 50 Million Dollar Donation

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 in Animal Issues, Business, Food & Drink.

UPI POY 2009 - News and Features

PETA may be getting some after all.

As previously reported, the animal rights group requested that the domain name “sex.com” be donated to them in order to use the site to promote vegetarianism.

Lucky for them, Mike Mann, a longtime vegetarian and social entrepreneur, is a part owner of the domain and wants the group to have it under one condition: the IRS must accept the $50 million dollar donation as a tax deduction.

The only other issue is that Mann is not the sole owner of the domain.

Will PETA be getting domain laid soon?

Tune in later to find out.

Salma Hayek at The 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party in LA

Joaquin Phoenix is back!

After a brief stint as a Rastafarian looking rapper with average rhyming ability, Phoenix has cut his hair, shaved and possibly showered to show his pretty face in a new video for PETA on the use of animal hides in the fashion industry.

“Exotic animals are mostly unknown to us, and so is what they suffer before being turned into belts and bags,” Joaquin says in the video. “Every year millions of reptiles are slaughtered so handbags, belts and shoes can be made from their skin. The animals’ welfare is not a consideration to those who hunt, skin and farm them.”

According to SF Gate, the video will be sent to celebrities who are known for using clothing and accessories made from lizards, snakes and alligators.
