Jamie Oliver On “The Daily Show” With Jon Stewart (Video)

Jamie Oliver made an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart where he discussed the decision of the Los Angeles County Unified School District to lock him out of the school system when he requested access to the cafeterias to teach kids to eat healthier for the second season of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Stewart joked, “It may be the only reality show not being shot in the L.A. school district.”

“Seal hunting is one of the most atrocious and inhumane acts against animals allowed by any government. Canada is allowing the slaughter of a record number of seals in their 2011 hunting season, which is going on right now. The seals are often younger than 3 months old. This has to stop. To my friends and fans in Canada: please help put a stop to this.”

Ellen DeGeneres, on a post to her show’s website, calling for fans to donate to help end the seal hunt. This year, the Canadian government has set a quota for 468,200 seals that can be killed.

Mario Batali will return to the New York Botanical Garden to help the organization kick off its 2011 gardening season and launch his Edible Garden.

On April 12, 2011, Batali will be joined by Bronx schoolchildren to celebrate both the benefits of gardening and the 25th anniversary of the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden, a hands-on exhibit at the Botanical Garden that teaches gardening techniques.

Batali will prepare vegetable beds and plant seeds for his Edible Garden, an exhibit that runs for several months starting in August, featuring the celebrity chef’s favorite vegetables, cooking demonstrations from BataliĀ and recipes using plants from the garden.

Batali made one of his New Year’s resolutions for 2011 to “master more vegetarian dishes” that can be cooked as a team.

Barbara Gowdy is no stranger to speaking out for animals. A vegetarian for 30 years and a vegan for 10, Gowdy wrote the award-winning The White Bone novel based on the perspective of an African elephant.

Now, Gowdy is encouraging her readers to follow her lead and take a vegan challenge during Earth Week 2011, which takes place from April 17-23.

“As someone who makes here living as a writer and living in her imagination, I’d like to challenge everybody who lives in his or her imagination to take the Vegan Challenge and become a vegan for just a week,” Gowdy said.
