Noli n Nali Tropical Goddess Body Butter

Noli n Nali, an organic skincare line for babies and mothers, was founded by Kenda Haines and named after her first born son and niece. The company was recently approached by the Jane Goodall Institute at the Natural Products Expo East to put the “Good for All” seal on their products, which features a picture of Jane on the package. By doing so, a portion of the sales from Noli n Nali products will go towards the Goodall Institute and Goodall’s “Roots and Shoots” program, which encourages youth to become more active in environmental issues.

One of CNN’s ireporters caught up with several celebrities at PETA’s 30th anniversary gala to ask how they give animals a voice.

Vegetarians like Alec Baldwin, Georges Laraque and James Cromwell had wonderful things to say about abstaining from animal products.

Alec Baldwin said he’d like for “people to eat less animals if they can…I would love to see people hunt less, wear no fur and eat less animals.”

Georges Laraque assured everyone going vegan wouldn’t whittle them down to skin and bones, having them weighing “100 pounds wet,” and used himself as an example.

Amanda Holden Gets Enough Vegetables. Here’s How You Can.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Research + Science.

Actress Amanda Holden probably can’t identify with the latest findings that Americans aren’t getting enough vegetables and fruit consumption is lower than before and not just because she’s British.

“This is going to make me sound like Martha Stewart, but I always start the day with a fresh fruit smoothie,” The Daily Mail reports Holden as saying. “I eat stacks of vegetables because I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 13.”

For the produce consumption challenged (which sometimes includes vegetarians), deliberately eating at least 3 servings of vegetables a day may take a little creative work. Treehugger suggests digging up old enemies from childhood and retrying those vegetables to see if your adult palate is more welcoming.

For the highly motivated, there are 19 ways to get 9 servings a day. Here are a few of the suggestions.

Lady Gaga Is Invited To Vegan Dinner By PETA President

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink, Recipes.

PETA’s president and co-founder, Ingrid Newkirk, would like to treat Lady Gaga to a full course vegan meal.

At the group’s 30th anniversary gala, Newkirk revealed she sent Gaga a little letter due to the singer’s recent escapades in outfits fashioned from raw meat.

“I’ve written to her privately and suggested that maybe we have a vegan dinner privately somewhere,” Newkirk said.

A special event may have varying levels of dress requirements, but we do hope Lady Gaga realizes her meat dress worn to the MTV Video Music Awards is a little inappropriate and would get her turned away faster than a polka dot pants wearing shirtless gent at a black tie party.

As a vegetarian or vegan, you’re probably already an expert at hosting meatless dinner parties, but if you’re going to be on the guest end of things, you can politely email tips for hosting a vegetarian friendly dinner to your host.

The basics of ensuring the guests feel welcomed, of course, is remembering what each type of diet means.

This weekend at PETA’s 30th anniversary gala, Pamela Anderson revealed she thinks eating vegan has helped her symptoms of Hepatitis C, a disease she contracted in 2002.

“I have Hepatitis C and I feel great, which I think has a lot to do with my diet,” Anderson said. “I feel better, I always feel healthy, but I feel better.”

A vegetarian diet has been shown to ease several ailments of the liver, including the final stages of liver failure, but one study found a diet in vegetable proteins helped with a condition known as Hepatic Encephalopathy, sometimes a complication of Hepatitis C that is marked by changes in mental processes like brain fogginess, confusion and forgetfulness.

Published in Digestive Diseases and Sciences, the study found that a “vegetable-protein diet resulted in overall clinical improvement, decreased hepatic encephalopathy index scores, decreased arterial ammonia levels, improved performance on intellectual tasks, and in one case, markedly improved protein tolerance.”
