Quantcast Vegetarian Starvegan celebrities (17)

Chrissie Hynde

“For me it’s about their [the animals] health. If I get any (nutritional) benefits from not killing them, I guess that’s a bonus.”
—-Pretenders’ singer Chrissie Hynde, in an interview, on the health benefits of being a vegan. Chrissie’s reason sounds a lot like the late Isaac Bashevis Singer, who said he went vegetarian for the health of the chickens.

What health benefits did you receive as a bonus for going vegetarian or vegan?

Heather Mills, Jamie Walker The Carnivore Still Going Strong

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 27th, 2009 in Couples, Models.

Heather Mills works on her new vegan restaurant

Awhile back, we told you an ex girlfriend of Heather Mills’ then boyfriend, Jamie Walker, was spilling the vegan pork and beans on her previous relationship with him.

Elsa Maneiro claimed Jamie and Heather would never work out because Jamie loved meat too much.

“I don’t think they will be compatible. Jamie will not become a vegetarian as he loves meat too much,” Maneiro said.

“He always lapped up my chicken or meat dishes. He has a penchant for hot dogs, hamburgers and junk food occasionally as well.”

“He adores fish. I can’t see him giving it up. The food is full of protein which is great for his body-building.”

Hmm…Either Jamie is eating more faux chicken lately or Heather’s tolerating his beefy ways.

Pictured here is Jamie and Heather walking on the day Heather showed the press the site for her new vegan restaurant, currently the old Big Fish Cafe. It looks like they are at least, ahem, keeping in touch.

Heather,a vegan, was pretty strict with Paul McCartney, requesting that he tighten the belt on his already vegetarian ways.

Has Heather let loose? Or has a woman turned Jamie around?

Alan Donohoe Exposes Butt, Says Why He Went Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 27th, 2009 in Male Singers, Videos.

Earlier we learned Alan Donohoe of The Rakes had his butt covered environmentally due to his vegan diet.

However, the latest dirt on Alan reveals something completely contradictory. It seems he’s taken his pants off and exposed his butt on one occasion. But it was all in the name of animal rights.

Alan ran naked in PETA’s Running Of The Nudes, to help bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Alan’s cute rescue kitty, Fritz, makes an appearance in this clip.

Jennifer Aniston Goes Vegan: Eats Chips, Quits, And Complains

UK Film Premiere : Marley And Me - Arrivals

If you keep up with the vegetarian celebrity news like we do, you know some of them have a tendency to flip flop between being veggie and eating meat, cough, cough, Anne Hathaway. So if you were in the business of predicting which celebrities would go veg/go meat/go veg, would you be a good forecaster?

Adam Kochanowicz, a vegan Examiner writer in Omaha, Nebraska thinks he can, and currently he’s got a “vegan pool” going, where he chooses which celebrities will go vegan and which will give it up, embarrassing vegans everywhere.

Jennifer Aniston, Matt Damon, and Barack Obama are all likely to go vegan. But Aniston is one who could potentially embarrass the vegans once she quits.

“Honestly, she seems like the kind of person to go vegan, eat chips and ramen, then quit and publicize how terrible it was,” Kochanowicz said.

A couple of celebrities predicted to give up vegan are Natalie Portman and Oprah Winfrey (ahem, once she goes back to vegan).

Oprah follows a new fad every other week, so although she might take up the diet and lifestyle again, there’s a good chance she’ll hear about something that gives her an excuse to give it up.

We’d have to disagree with Natalie Portman, since she seems like such an ethical vegan, making the decision to go vegetarian at a young age for ethical reasons as well. A Harvard graduate, Natalie is much too intelligent to be swayed that easily. Sorry, Adam. We think you’re wrong on that one!

Gossip Girl Dreama Walker, Moby Rub Elbows With Vegan Docs

The Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine is a non-profit organization that promotes a veggie diet and lifestyle to prevent and treat diseases like diabetes, as well as advocates the advancement of medical research without the testing on animals.

The group recently held a benefit at Peter and Mary Max’s in New York city, where veg celebrities like Moby, Dan Piraro, and Dreama Walker attended.

Guess that means Dreama kept her vegetarian ways.

If you recall, the Gossip Girl actress embarked on a 30-day vegan diet after watching the Joaquin Phoenix narrated documentary, Earthlings. She had said then she probably would continue, but might see how her body would react to dairy.

With all the vegan food to choose from at the event, Dreama certainly didn’t have to worry about straying from vegan that night, as food from fine restaurants like  Bonobo’s4-Course Vegan and Candle 79 was served.

Vegan Bryan Adams Will Eat Well At Juno Awards Dinner

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Bryan Adams performs in concert in Ft Lauderdale, Florida

Like, fed to the tune of 100 pounds of mixed greens. Actually, Bryan will probably just have a nice helping of them that fills up a salad bowl or two, but hey, who’s to say he might not be really hungry on the evening of the Juno Awards banquet.

The Juno Awards highlight Canada’s best music performing artists. Besides the actual award ceremony taking place on March 29th, many “Juno” activities will be happening in the host city of Vancouver, including a dinner gala where hundreds of hungry musicians will meet up at Westin Bayshore Hotel for a dinner for the stars.

Celebs such as Sarah McLachlan, Nickelback, and vegan rocker Bryan Adams are expected  to be present. And it looks like Bryan will have a lot to chow down on.

“[In terms of] salad, we’ll probably go through almost 100 pounds of mixed greens,” said Executive Chef Kevin Doucette.

But that doesn’t mean Bryan will be munching like a rabbit for the big night, as they’ll be plenty of veg dishes to choose from.

Melanie Berry, president of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), which organizes the Junos, said, “There’s a fairly good number of vegetarians, too, so we want to sample those dishes because they are just so important.”

Not only that, Chef Doucette is thrilled to cook up meatless entrees.

“Coming up with vegetarian dishes is more exciting than anything,” he said. “It’s not on the set menu. It has to be fresh. And it changes all the time.”

The Rakes’ Alan Donohoe: His Butt’s Covered Environmentally

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 in Environment-Eco-Green, Male Singers.

The Rakes Perform At The ICA

Some say if you’re a vegetarian and drive a Hummer, you’re still responsible for less emissions than a meat eater. Of course a vegan driving a hybrid is better. A vegan on a bike is superb. And if piggybacking ever becomes a standard of transportation, that’ll cut carbon emissions too.

Alan Donohoe of The Rakes never wanted to drive, and living in London there was really no need for a car, but eventually he settled on a middle of the road eco-friendly Triumph 1300 after moving to Brighton.

Donohoe admits the Triumph 1300 isn’t as efficient as other vehicles, but since he’s a vegan, he’s got his butt covered-at least environmentally.

“[My car is] very light, though it isn’t as efficient as one those horrible cars, what are they called? Those new sort of smart cars. It’s not like I take it out apart from the odd spin at the weekend or something, but in my defence I am a vegan, and that diet is very good for the environment. I can’t back it up scientifically and I don’t know who said it, but a vegan in a 4X4 is still using more emissions than a meat eater on a bicycle. I went to this talk by this guy from The Vegan Society and he was talking about people having enough land to sustain themselves, and he was saying a vegan could live off one acre of land using the resources of everything within that acre. So environmentally, I’m covered.”
