Cheech Marin

Cheech Marin is being honored at the ArtHamptons International Art Fair in Bridgehampton as arts patron of the year.

In addition to collecting art from a variety of genres, Marin has had the opportunity to meet with some exciting names in the field, including vegan artist Peter Max.

The two had an exchange on veganism, but it unfortunately wasn’t enough inspiration to convince Marin to add any veggie paintings to his collection.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to gently encourage those of you who are planning to eat a traditional holiday meal to reconsider and instead extend your compassion to the 46 million turkeys who are cruelly raised and slaughtered just for this day by choosing to celebrate with a vegetarian Thanksgiving (that can still be really fun and delicious!). After all, how can we sincerely honor the themes of Thanksgiving (i.e. peace and gratitude) with a slaughtered sentient being in the middle of the table (http://www.goveg.com/factoryFarming_turkeys_farms.asp)?

Peter And Mary Max To Host Kelly Overton’s Standardized Testing

Duke Of Edinburgh International Awards Luncheon

Activists and longtime veg couple Peter and Mary Max will be hosting the launch of the film, Standardized Testing on Friday, June 19th from 6:30-8:30 PM at the Max Studio at 37 West 65th Street, 7th Floor in New York City.

Standardized Testing follows activist Kelly Overton  as he returns to his Alma maters of Harvard, Tulane, Columbia, and UMass in an attempt to return his degrees and get his tuition refunded to bring attention to the controversial medical research being conducted on animals in university labs.

According to the Standardized Testing website, “The film uses scientific and economic data to show how medical research done on animals wastes billions of tax dollars annually, obstructs medical progress and needlessly tortures and kills millions of animals every year.”

Overton is the founder of PATH, People Protecting Animals and Their Habitats. PATH, according to its website, “advocates for the humane treatment of all animals, as well as the conservation and protection of areas that are vital to the survival of endangered or threatened species.”

Tickets for the event may be purchased  at ppath.org.

Peter Max Credits Energy To Yoga, Vegetarian Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, June 4th, 2009 in Artists.

The 6th Annual Womans Day Red Dress Awards - Arrivals

From now until June 7, you need to get your tails down to Sirani Gallery on Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The lovely works of Peter Max are on display there, including his 44 Obama paintings and a total of 180 mostly unique works.

That’s a lot of numbers!

What kind of man has the energy to paint 44 pictures of President Obama? Max credits his endurance to yoga and a vegetarian diet and says he feels like a college kid again.

“I feel like I’m 22 years old,” Max said. “I have 100 people who work for me. I’m involved in animal rights. My wife and I are involved helping hundreds of organizations.”

He may feel like a newbie, but one thing’s for sure: Max is earning way more money that most young, starving artists.

Vegetarian Times hosted their 2009 Dining Out Awards and nearly 700 readers voted for restaurants based in different regions of the U.S and several specialty veg restaurants like Most Eco-Fabulous and Totally RAWsome.

Chrissie Hynde’s Vegiterranean won “Most Promising Rookie.”

Several other restaurants made the cut, including The Chicago Diner for the midwest. If you recall, the diner is where Ellen DeGeneres went gaga over the vegan seitan hot wings and had some Fed Ex’d to her studios in California.

Peter Max’s fave, Candle 79, won the category for the northeast.
