Summer TCA Tour - Day 9

About an hour left before the animal rights group, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), launches their protest against Jay Leno and The Jay Leno Show.

PETA is upset because Jay recently gave props to McDonald’s, a fast food establishment that PETA says is still using cruel methods to slaughter its chickens.

PETA members will arrive in chickens suits at The Jay Leno Show studios at NBC Studios in Burbank at 3000 W. Alameda Ave. at 2:30 p.m.

Ironically, Jay’s musical sidekick, Kevin Eubanks, is a vegetarian.

Perez Hilton Thoughts On PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Authors.

Perez Hilton Presents Tour - New York

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was interviewed by justout.com, when he was asked what his thoughts were on the animal rights group People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Perez thinks PETA is a lot like him. Read to find out why.

JO: You support PETA, which directly opposes biomedical HIV research; you also support HIV research and advocacy groups such as Keep A Child Alive. Do you personally oppose biomedical HIV research? Should the gay community support or oppose biomedical research?
PH: You know, it wouldn’t be fair to say I support PETA—it’d be fair to say I support some of the things they say, but at the same time, fuck—I eat meat and own some leather shoes. I don’t wear fur, though. You know, I’m a human being, and human beings are walking contradictions! I think we should explore all avenues for finding a cure for HIV and AIDS—and all diseases! Like stem cell research—I’m all for it!

JO: If biomedical research shouldn’t be opposed, why do you support PETA, who believes research should be stopped, and not another animal welfare organization that is pro-research?
PH: I don’t support PETA—I support some of the things that PETA does. I support that they’re kind of like me, in that they’re loud and sometimes obnoxious. Underneath that, a lot of the things they do and other things I don’t agree with.

Both Perez and PETA are loud and obnoxious?

LOL! Separated at birth.

Bob Barker Still Fighting Edmonton Zoo For Lucy The Elephant

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 18th, 2009 in Animal Issues.

TV legend Bob Barker meets fans in Los Angeles

Bob Barker is showing his animal rights love for Lucy the elephant at the Edmonton Zoo in Canada.

The vegetarian ex Price is Right host is calling for the zoo to release Lucy so she may live her remaining years in a sanctuary.

Bob met with zoo officials recently for the proposal.

“There’s very little agreement on anything,” Bob said. “One minute they say she’s happy and healthy and the next minute they say that she’s too ill to travel.”

“Before I go to my maker I would like to see Lucy in the sanctuary,” Bob added.

Bob mentioned that PETA had hired a high profiled Toronto-based lawyer Clayton Ruby to see if anything can be done through the courts to have Lucy moved.

The zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. James Oosterhuis, insists that Lucy’s current respiratory condition would make it dangerous to move her.

“Her current respiratory problems preclude any thought of moving her and in fact, it would be life-threatening,” wrote Oosterhuis. “It is my opinion that it would be unethical for any veterinarian to recommend moving her.”

Barker, along with animal rights activists and their veterinarians insist Lucy can only get better if she is moved.

Much Music VJ Sarah Taylor was there at the door checking people for cruel clothing like Pamela Anderson stripped potential passengers in the Cruelty Doesn’t Fly ad.

“I’m vegan. This is a cause I really believe in,” Taylor said. “I’m all about cruelty-free products.”

She was asked if she was trying to be the next Pamela Anderson.

“Looking down at my chest, I’d say no,” she replied.

Ah, boobs.

They’re not important.

What matters is that you never possess any chicken breasts.

Go Sarah!

Michael Vick‘s return to the football field has drew a lot of talk, much of which is from the vegetarian community.

PETA’s president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk was recently interviewed on MSNBC to give her thoughts on the matter.

PETA had considered working with Vick after his prison release, but weren’t convinced Vick was truly a changed man.

During the video, Ingrid reminds everyone of the reasons why PETA couldn’t form a partnership, including the fact that “claw marks” were found on the pools where dogs were drown and Vick put “family pets” in the ring to fight with other dogs.

Montell Williams Grills PETA President Ingrid Newkirk

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, August 27th, 2009 in Food & Drink, TV Hosts.

The Montel Williams MS Foundation Gala

You’ve probably heard by now that PETA has replaced it’s controversial “Save The Whales” billboard featuring an obese woman with one less offensive, but still advocating vegetarianism.

Talk show host Montell Williams recently sat down with PETA’s president Ingrid Newkirk to discuss the billboard.

Williams’ questions whether PETA went too far.

MW: Ingrid, you have admit, come on, I’ve got it, you were controversial, you hit your home run, it went out of the park, I’m talking about it for three days. And the rest of America is going to keep talking about it. But the truth is, I think Joseph is right. Any child who would use that as a reason, or anybody who now says ‘those fat people are people who pick on animals,’ come on, we’ve got to slow down a little bit.

IN: I wish more than anything you can ever imagine that we could not be controversial, and we could not be provocative. I really do.

Montell even suggests why not make it equal opportunity and put men on the billboard versus targeting women.

His daughter, Wyntergrace, is veggie.

Maybe he’s afraid one day she’ll get naked for a campaign!
