You will probably never attend a memorial service where the guests dress like this.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals made an appearance at Michael Jackson’s memorial service and took the opportunity to promote vegetarianism with a sign that read, “Go Vegetarian For The Man In The Mirror.”

The pop star was vegetarian, and the group is currently trying to get permission to use a song he sang for a movie, “Ben,” to educate people on the conditions of rodents in research laboratories.

“Ben” features Michael singing about a boy’s love for his pet rat.

Betty White Criticizes PETA, Doesn’t Mind Doing Ads For Them

Betty White

Golden Girl Betty White recently expressed her disapproval with the animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

“They play dirty,” she said in an interview with Canada.com. “They not only give misinformation but disinformation . . . . They won’t listen, and it infuriates me. I’m sure they love animals but they should find out the facts.”

However, Betty has worked with the organization in the past, starring in an anti-fur public service announcement with her fellow Golden Girls.

Betty works with the Morris Animal Foundation, which  funds “humane” studies dealing with the health problems of dogs, cats, horses, zoo animals and wild life. She’s also worked with the Los Angeles zoo for the past 41 years.

“Health and welfare, that’s all I’m interested in,” she explained and cautioned against being labeled an animal rights activist.

She’s not the first celebrity to work with PETA and criticize them later.

Vegan UFC champ Mac Danzig did a vegetarian PSA for the group, but later said that while believed in animal rights, “the way they go about their business is junior high most time.”

Petas Fashion Week Bash At Stella McCartney

Ingrid Newkirk’s story proves even the most carnivorous human can change.

The president and co-founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has recently revealed she didn’t always care for animals-unless they were on her back or plate.

In her new book, The PETA Practical Guide to Animal Rights, Newkirk writes, “There was nothing I loved more than my fur jacket. In my 20s, I was eating my way through the animal kingdom, and what I didn’t eat I wore.”

Wow. PETA queen was the queen of pork and mink?

Who would’ve thought?

PETA Queen, Ingrid Newkirk, Chats With Ecorazzi

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Videos.

PETA’s co-founder and president, Ingrid Newkirk, sat down with green gossip website Ecorazzi.com over a vegan bacon cheeseburger for an interview.

Ingrid’s latest book, The PETA Practical Guide To Animal Rights, has just been released and offers tips for everyday folk to get involved with protecting animals.

Ingrid said one of the most important things an activist can do is to arm themselves with answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.

She, like Russell Simmons, also said Barack Obama should stop publicly going out for cheeseburgers and opt for healthier, vegetarian choices instead.

So many are talking. Think Mr. President will get the message?

A commercial aired during a recent episode of Dancing With The Stars that made fun of PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaigns.

Here are a few of the cold, hard facts and statements about the dance television industry you should know about:

“Every year, hundreds are dancers are hurt senselessly in order to make dance television.”

“How many more mic pads do I have to land on?”

“How many more camera men will I run into?”

“I’d rather go naked than see another dancer hurt.”

Emily Deschanel Currently Without Companion, Home Cooked Food

Genesis Awards 2009

Emily Deschanel has announced that she’s currently single and on the market.

But if you want a chance at her, there’s some pretty strict criteria you’ll need to meet, including being super sweet and having four legs.

In a recent interview with PETA, Deschanel expressed an interest in adopting a pet once her hectic schedule cools down a bit.

“I don’t have any animal companions right now. My amazing dog Snookie passed away a year ago. She was 17 years old. I miss her. She was super sweet and smart. I’m not ready for another animal in my life right now, especially because I wouldn’t have the time to take proper care of them (we work 16- to 17-hour days). I look forward to the day I can bring another animal into my home. They enrich our lives so much! Of course, I would adopt!”

Not only is she too busy for animal love right now, poor gal can’t even find time to make a home cooked meal for herself.

“I don’t really cook for myself right now since my schedule is insane. I look forward to the day I can pick up my Veganomicon cookbook and go to town!! I also indulge in raw chocolate on a daily basis.”

Social Distortion Frontman Mike Ness Records Vegetarian PSA

Stagecoach California's Country Music Festival 2008 - Day 1
Mike Ness has recorded his PSA for vegetarianism with PETA.

Mike is the front man for the rock band Social Distortion and is making a name for himself in the alterna-country scene.

“The more I got educated about cruelty and inhumane treatment… It was really a no-brainer. No one would barbecue their family dog. How is a cow or a pig different or a chicken different? They’re just as much of a gentle animal as a dog or a cat.”

“I just feel stronger, faster, cleaner, healthier.”

You can watch Mike’s PSA at peta.org.
