PETA Defends Steakhouse Strippin’ Pamela Anderson

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 18th, 2009 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

Pamela Anderson at the Millionaire Fair in Amsterdam

The veg gal Pamela Anderson recently agreed to launch the opening of a strip club. A strip club located in a steakhouse.

While we feel this isn’t the best example a vegetarian should be setting, PETA is defending one of its biggest partners in meatless crime. A statement from the organization:

“Pam is not a host but may be attending as an invited guest, and since steakhouses nowadays have some of the best salad bars and veggie options around, we’re sure she’ll find plenty to eat should she attend.”

Well, sure, a steakhouse always has some vegetables. That’s why they call it “meat and potatoes.”

If she really wants to do some promoting, she’ll champion for a veggie burger on the steakhouse menu.

Robert Pattinson Can Bite PETA’s Microwave Vegan Cookbook

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 6th, 2009 in Actors, Recipes, Videos.

2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - Arrivals

The microwave has come a long way. It’s hard to imagine anyone not using one.

But Robert Pattinson has a fairly new relationship with the microwave and the passion between the two is more steamy than removing the plastic film from the frozen dinner tray after it’s cooked.

Pattinson recently mentioned in an interview with GQ that he’s never owned a microwave until he moved to LA. Now that he’s got one, his desires are in overdrive and he’s always looking for new things to nuke.

PETA caught wind of this and are sending him their very own cookbook,  PETA’s Vegan College Cookbook: 275 Easy, Cheap, and Delicious Recipes to Keep You Vegan at School

The cookbook doesn’t officially come out until May. But here’s a lovely infomercial that’ll have you whipping out your credit card at 3:00 AM after watching the one for the Time Life 80s collection.

Now, Rob should have no problem finding something to pop in the box every night. With recipes like Fake Blondes, Pimp My Ramen Noodles, Butt Ugly Sticky Blonds, and Campus Streaker Sausage Dip, we expect Rob and the microwave to be going strong for a while.

Jesse McCartney Makes Monkey Of Himself With PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 3rd, 2009 in Actors, Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

The Cinema Society & Details Host The After Party For I Love You, Man

Sounds like something straight from a Fear Factor episode.

Pop singer Jesse McCartney was visiting Asia recently when he decided to fully immerse himself in the culture, trying one of the local delicacies of monkey brain.

Apparently, it wasn’t  the best meal he’d had. It was missing a little bit of salt and pepper.

“It was a little chewy and a little bland,” McCartney said. “It could have been seasoned a little bit more to tell you the truth.”

The only “icious” way to describe that meal would be “gagalicious.” We’re sorry if you’re reading this while eating lunch at your desk.

When PETA found about about Jesse monkeying around, Spokesman Michael McGraw said in a statement, “You’d have to be bananas to eat monkey flesh, or any meat. When it comes to the ability to feel pain and suffer, a monkey is no different from chickens, cows and pigs. All animals deserve respect, which is why PETA promotes a vegetarian diet.”

Rise Against Singer Tim McIlrath Praises Australian Pumpkin Love

KROQ Weenie Roast Y Fiesta 2008

Rise Against singer Tim McIlrath says the band likes touring Australia because the Aussie’s love their pumpkin.

“We love Australia, because Australia loves pumpkin,” said Tim McIlrath, in a recent interview. “In Australia they put pumpkin in everything. And pumpkin is great.”

Sure, pumpkin is delicious, but Tim likes pumpkin for another reason: It produces less greenhouse gases than meat, so praising Australia for its pumpkin love is a way Tim and the band can get their vegetarian message across to fans.

Besides passing out PETA pamphlets at concerts, the all vegetarian band never misses a chance to pipe for their cause while touring.

“Eating meat is one of the most environmentally damaging things you can do,” McIlrath said.

Aussie pumpkin love forever!

Dennis Miller To Bill O’Reilly: PETA Embarrasses Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, March 28th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Radio Hosts, TV Hosts.

11th Annual Critics Choice Awards - Show

Dennis Miller and Bill O’Reilly recently exchanged some words on PETA. Turns out Miller thinks PETA isn’t all that bad. But he criticizes what he calls their “bedside manners,” or way of going about their activism, even joking that “animals are embarrassed that they front them.”

O’REILLY: All right. Let’s get on to you can’t have the circus anymore. The PETA people say that the circus is brutal to the animals and they’re taking their case to the kids. In Baltimore, PETA activists dressed up, and they’re telling kids that, you know, all kind of mean stuff is happening at the circus. What do you think?

MILLER: I think PETA people are emotional wrecks. I think they have been so horribly disappointed by their fellow human beings that they have to cozy up to a ferret to have a friend. And I think there are even animals out there who are embarrassed that they front them. They ought to lay off the kids, although psychologically and intellectually, that’s who they’re akin to. But the simple fact is kids love the circus. And PETA to get in the middle of that, it’s just, you know, like I said, it’s embarrassing to them.

I feel empathy and I feel loathing for PETA. Because sometimes I look at them and I go, “Wow, they’ve been so cracked up about fellow humans, they’ve got to befriend the pet world.” And then there are other times that I think, “Oh, shut up, you’re going to have a kid one day, for God’s sakes. Let him go to the circus.”

O’REILLY: Well, I feel the same way. I think PETA did some good work in the cruelty to animals stuff. But they’re just way over the line.

MILLER: Bill, they do good — they do good work with the clumsiest bedside manner imaginable.

O’REILLY: Right.

MILLER: They could do better work if they just used their heads.

What’s your opinion on PETA? Do you agree with Miller on their tactics? Or does he need to get educated on the horrors circuses really put animals through?

Corey Feldman’s Grandparents Thought Vegetarianism Was Nuts!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 in Actors, Animal Issues.

Premiere Of Walt Disney Pictures Race To Witch Mountain - Arrivals

Actor Corey Feldman has some genes that make him love animals, as his mother was an animal rights advocate. Good for him for having such a compassionate mother, because grandma and grandpa thought vegetarianism was just plain tipesh!

Note: Hebrew vocab 101. Tipesh is the word for dumb, idiot, stupid…you get the point.

From an interview with Look To The Stars.org:

“By the time I was 10 years old, I was resigned to the fact the I wanted to be a vegetarian for the rest of my life. However, growing up in a strict family environment, my grandparents where old Jewish traditional type people and thought I was crazy for wanting to be a vegetarian. It took until I was about 13 years old when I made the decision to be a strict vegetarian… and have been every since, and it’s been about 24 years for me now.”

Growing up, Feldman and his mother had as many as 50 animals living with them on their ranch as a result of their obsessive dog and cat rescuing tendencies.

Nowadays, Corey lists animal rights organizations such as the Humane Society, PETA, Farm Sanctuary, and Last Chance For Animals as his top choice for charities.

Visit LookToTheStars.org for the entire interview with Corey.

Kareena Kapoor Playing Love ‘Em, Veg ‘Em, And Leave ‘Em?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 19th, 2009 in Actresses, Bollywood.

We already told you how Ingrid Newkirk of PETA said vegetarians and vegans should date omnivores to bring them over the their side and then dump them to move on and convert someone else.

We even joked that Natalie Portman might be doing this to Rob Pattinson.

But it looks like Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor really follows the rule.

Kareena became vegetarian while dating fellow Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor, but the two later broke up. Kareena and Shahid are still both veg, though, and Shahid even put his dog on a vegetarian diet.

Now, Kareena is involved with a guy who is, in her words, “hard core non-vegetarian, who at every given step would be eating his steak and his roast chicken.” But that’s not affecting her eating habits. From the Times of India:

“I did it completely because I believed in it. It’s because of a book I read and I completely believe in. Nobody has put a dagger to my head. I’ve learnt something from Shahid and that’s something that Saif appreciates and in fact Saif always tells me that “Listen, if now you go back to being a non vegetarian, I’ll loose faith in you as a person.” I’ve traveled the word with Saif and he’s sat across thousands of tables from me and I’ve stuck to my French fries even though I have to put on a kilo on my scale, but I would not go for the roast chicken.”

So Kareena came around on her own. But it looks like her past loves played a role. Will Kareena bring her new man over to the veg side? And will the poor soul be left behind once he gives up his steak and roast chicken?

Tiger Woods Wanted Naked For His Stripes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Athletes-Games-Sports.

Tavistock Cup Day 2

PETA wants Tiger Woods to do a hole in one wearing none.

Actually, they’ll settle for him stripping down to the essentials to stand up for tigers and other animals in circuses.

They’re hoping he’ll ditch the traditional polo shirt and club for some stripes painted on his body and a sign educating people about the abuse that animals endure.

An excerpt from the letter to the golfer:

“We’re writing to you today with an interesting request. As one of the most successful and celebrated golfers in history, we believe that you could use both your influence and your distinctive first name to help bring attention to the suffering of tigers and other wild animals who are abused in circuses. Would you consider having your body painted to resemble a tiger and then sit in a cage to protest the cruel treatment of tigers, elephants, bears, and other wild animals in circuses? Not only are these animals beaten, shocked, and whipped to make them perform tricks that are confusing and meaningless to them, they are also caged or chained for up to 95 percent of their miserable lives.”

tiger_woods_naked

Tiger would make a nice male addition to the heavily female advertisements ran by the group, but somehow, with his clean-cut image, we find it hard to image him doing the stripe-tease.
