Quantcast Vegetarian StarBetty White Criticizes PETA, Doesn’t Mind Doing Ads For Them

Betty White

Golden Girl Betty White recently expressed her disapproval with the animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

“They play dirty,” she said in an interview with Canada.com. “They not only give misinformation but disinformation . . . . They won’t listen, and it infuriates me. I’m sure they love animals but they should find out the facts.”

However, Betty has worked with the organization in the past, starring in an anti-fur public service announcement with her fellow Golden Girls.

Betty works with the Morris Animal Foundation, which  funds “humane” studies dealing with the health problems of dogs, cats, horses, zoo animals and wild life. She’s also worked with the Los Angeles zoo for the past 41 years.

“Health and welfare, that’s all I’m interested in,” she explained and cautioned against being labeled an animal rights activist.

She’s not the first celebrity to work with PETA and criticize them later.

Vegan UFC champ Mac Danzig did a vegetarian PSA for the group, but later said that while believed in animal rights, “the way they go about their business is junior high most time.”

I would really like to know what Betty White exactly talks about. What kind of disinformation does PETA give the people? Or could it be, that she just does not want to hear true information about the sad life of zoo animals???

The only disinformation I can think of that PETA gives is their cruelty free list. Most of the companies on that list do not test final products on animals but they get ingredients from suppliers that do. So that’s why I go by CCIC’s list list http://www.leapingbunny.org since their list only list companies that do not test final products on animals and gets ingredients from suppliers that do not test on animals.

Nah, I know exactly what she means. PETA is famous for manufacturing their own sensationalism. They will say or do whatever they need to get in print and that ticks a lot of folks off because they do not always speak the truth as it’s written.

  4. Linda Says:

The disinformation that they give out is that they and their friends at hsus want to eradicate all pets…people shouldn`t have pets. They and hsus kill many more of the animals that come to them than they find homes for. As PeTA says, we are a animal rights org., not a shelter. Kinda says it all, doesn`t it.

PETA does some ridiculous things, but Betty White is not even vegan or vegetarian. She promoted a hot dog in LA recently, and it was named after her. She loves dogs and cats and eatd cows and pigs. No credibility whatsoever as a spokesperson for animal issues.

I don’t know if anyone is still following this article but the problem and misinformation w/ PETA comes down to the number of animals they are responsible for KILLING every year (and if you think HSUS is also in that boat then educate yourself regarding “humanewatch” and Rick Berman the lobbyist – google that w/ Rachel Maddow’s name for a really great interview).
I work in a municipal animal shelter. Our “leave live” rate was once around 25%, now up to 66% and rising. PETA’s “leave live” rate, on average each year and even now, is 3%. That is not a typo.
Ingrid Newkirk is actually spoken out against having animals in the home as pets, and believes we are forcing them to live with us and do our bidding (good manners training is wrong, socialization is wrong, blah blah blah)
BTW, here’s a recent article on the wonderful PETA – be sure to look closely at the pictures and read the article)
