Kate Mara, actress from House of Cards, in a promo video for Meatless Mondays for the the Humane Society of the United States. Mara can be seen in the animal welfare organization’s All Animals May/June 2015 magazine discussing life growing up on a farm with animals and pets, and the decision that led her to eliminate all animal products from her diet.

A vegetarian with a background in Biology, she’s well aware of the consequences of meat consumption on the environment and is always doing her part to campaign for more eco-friendly lifestyles, such as her campaigns to get renewable fuels into race cars and recycling tubs at every track.

“If you really look at the way people eat in North America today, it’s so different from other cultures. When we think of the word protein, it’s almost the same meaning as meat. In other cultures, protein comes from plant-based sources: In South America, it’s whole grains; in Mexico, it’s beans; in India, it’s lentils; in Asia, it’s soy. Not all of those cultures are vegetarian, obviously, but the bulk of their protein intake is from plant-based sources. In the U.S., we don’t know how to address vegetarian protein.”

Kim O’Donnel, blogger at TrueSlant.com, who has written for the Huffington Post, Washington Post and Real Simple, has written a cookbook, The Meat Lover’s Meatless Cookbook: Vegetarian Recipes Carnivores Will Devour.

The book is meant to serve as an aide for those interested in implementing Meatless Mondays, as it contains 52 recipes which may be prepared over the course of an entire year to gradually acquaint the carnivore with vegetarian cuisine.

O’Donnel recently released a video about the book, where she asks, “Do you have a Mr. Sausage in your life? Or maybe you’re Mr. Sausage. Mr. Sausage is that person who cannot imagine not eating some kind of meat.”

Mr. Sausage, meet the Meat Lover’s Meatless Cookbook. We’re sure this is a relationship that will last longer than those hotdogs infused with preserving nitrates.

The cookbook is scheduled for release from Da Capo Lifelong Books in September.

8th Annual Can-Do Awards Dinner

Mario Batali has announced that he supports Meatless Mondays!

The chef who has given hints during interviews that people should focus more on plant based foods instead of meats, will have all of his 14 restaurants adhere to the veggie holiday as well.

Every Monday, there will be at least 2 vegetarian dishes served, such as pasta or pizza.

In addition, many of the restaurants will designate the items as Meatless Mondays options, with Mario’s “MM” logo.

“The fact is, most people in the U.S. eat way more meat than is good for them or the planet,” maintains Batali.

“Asking everyone to go vegetarian or vegan isn’t a realistic or attainable goal. But we can focus on a more plant-based diet. That’s why I’m such a big believer in the Meatless Monday movement!”

Leona told the magazine, “I’m very fiery and very passionate,” adding that she has debated several times with Simon Cowell.

The vegetarian was probably very passionate when she convinced Simon to do Meatless Mondays.
