Global Green USAs 6th Annual Pre-Oscar Party - Red Carpet

Everybody’s favorite “Vegetarian Hippie Chick” in race car driving has teamed up with a company that produces eco friendly t-shirts to produce her racing merchandise.

Leilani Munter will be driving the Firestone Indy Lights car at the season finale at Chicagoland Speedway on August 29.

Ecobabble has signed up to be one of Leilani’s partners in her quest to make race car driving more environmentally friendly.

A recycle bin will be placed in Leilani’s pit at the track for fans to place their soda and water bottles, which Ecobabble will use to manufacture 50/50 cotton/polyester t-shirts.

“I am excited to be working with Ecobabble to offer eco friendly merchandise,” said Leilani, “And I’d also like to thank Chicagoland Speedway for allowing me to have a recycle bin in my pit. Together we are teaming up to help make a greener world and I am just proud to be a part of it.”

Cool fact: It takes 5 plastic bottles to make one t-shirt.

If you started saving your cola bottles, you might never need to shop at The Gap again.

Heather Mills vegan cafe VBites opens in Hove, Brighton, UK

Treehugger has compiled a list of their favorite celebrity green businesses and vegan star Heather Mills made the cut.

Not only does Heather run her little vegan cafe and restaurant in the UK called V Bites, she also recently purchased Redwood Wholesale Foods.

And that just makes Heather greenalicious!

From Treehugger.com:

“Last month we reported that Heather Mills opened Vbites Café, a seaside vegan establishment in the U.K. offering unique meatless meats and vegan favorites–accompanied by vegan and organic wines and beers. At the time, we had also caught wind of a potential new vegan frozen food business. While we at TreeHugger were skeptical over the motives, Heather Mills’ Web site now confirms that Mills is indeed the new owner of U.K.-based Redwood Wholesale Foods. And she isn’t stopping there: The company hopes to soon bring their meat-free brands to the U.S. for distribution.”

It’s no surprise a vegetarian business made the eco cut.

Meat’s not green and never has been.

Go Heather for making green so darn tasty!

You’ll be able to carry your five-piece brush set in a cosmetic bag made from recycled materials and hemp,.

“I only wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before,” Silverstone told WWD. “This is a conscious product line that is good for the planet. Unless you need it, it’s just stuff,” she added.

Being the down to earth gal she is, Alicia’s products will be available in drugstores.  Along with a five-piece brush set and bag ($16), she’ll have a cosmetic bag ($9); a cosmetics brush bag ($13); a train case ($15); and an overnight bag in the set ($20).

Treehugger.com has written up a post titled “6 Green Celebrity Product Lines We Can’t Get Enough Of.”

Two of the product lines are produced by veggie stars Ed Begley Jr. and Stella McCartney.

Here is a description of the glass and window cleaner from Begley’s Best.com:

“Begley’s Best contains aqueous detergents and surfactants derived from natural feedstock, complexing agents and food grade certified colorant. It is certified as a biological nutrient by MBDC. ”

In addition, it says the glass cleaner “won’t streak or leave residues,” which might be a downside for you bird lovers (ever watched those commercials where the birds keep running into windows? Wait, not funny. Veg blogging social faux pas)

The all purpose cleaner contains “extracts of pine, maize, fermented sugar cane roots, and olive seeds.” Sounds like it smells heavenly.

Besides Stella McCartney’s clothing and shoe line, the vegetarian fashion designer offers CARE, a line of organic skin products that keep the parabens, petrochemicals, and artificial fragrances that send you to the allergist out.

Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood Hosts A Live Performance By Melissa Etheridge

“When I got my breast cancer diagnosis [in 2004] and realized that my body was out of balance, I started to look at what it needed to be in balance: good food, whole food. I started looking at the environment around me — and I realized we need similar ingredients to make our earth bodies run. We have neglected what it takes to make the earth run. When I got involved in Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” I really began to educate myself.I realized I couldn’t keep walking down the path of, “I can put anything I want into my stomach, and I’m going to live forever.” That’s not going to work, nor will it for the Earth.”

—-Melissa Etheridge, on the realization that both our bodies and our planet need only the healthiest ingredients put into them.

Melissa puts the best in her body by maintaining a vegetarian diet.

Pamela Anderson recently took a trip to Montenegro to meet with the Atlas Group and discuss building a eco friendly spa and hotel in the country.

The hotel, if Pamela decides by next month to build, will contain all the elements of a green business, right down to serving organic and vegetarian food as much as possible.

If this seems like the exception to the rule, the vegetarian actress and sex symbol says it’s the norm for Montenegro.

“A country well versed and already committed to the ecological principles so important to me,” Pamela says as she introduces Montenegro.

“A country where local and organic farming already exists by default, rather than by design.”

That’s it. Give us a timeshare for a condo there!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 in Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green, Fashion.

Glee Cheerleaders Exclusive Performance at Foxs Upfront Presentation

Lisa Edelstein has told us all about her vegan shoe problem in the past.

Although she sometimes wears leather shoes, the House actress and vegetarian says she tries to support vegan companies whenever possible.

“There are some wonderful emerging companies that have great vegan shoes and bags and I try to support them as much as possible.”

Edelstein, along with other celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, Laura Wright, and John Henson share their secrets for being green on Mother Nature Network.

I’m the crazy person that for the last 20 years has brought my own bags to the grocery store,” Edelstein said. “I use environmentally friendly cleaning supplies in my house, I use biodegradable doggie bags and I drive a hybrid. I do what I can. If everybody does what they can it will make an enormous difference.”

If you’re looking for a vegan shoe, it might surprise you to know they’re not as scarce as some realize. Even shops like Target will usually have a few pairs containing completely man-made material.

With well known designers like Elizabeth Olsen to a pocketbook and environmentally friendly Zoe and Zac brand at Payless Shoes, you’re guaranteed plenty of opportunities to have your style and ethics too.
