Is one of daytime TV’s most liked talk show hosts starting a career as a serial writer?

Ellen DeGeneres‘ next book Seriously I’m Kidding is scheduled for release in October. Ellen has never shied away from discussing the events that led to her veganism, so it’s a good guess she’ll touch on her lifestyle in this book too.

Even better for her vegan fans, Ellen may be releasing a cookbook in the future.

Inside, the talk show host discusses her love of animals, including the animal charities she’s worked with.

She’s donated her time and money to animal welfare organizations like Humane Society and sanctuaries like The Gentle Barn, but would you call her an activist?

Maybe a “compassionist” would better define her.

DeGeneres served as a celebrity dealer at the Playboy Club in the Palms Casino and Resort where she became certified as a blackjack dealer.

Wayne Pacelle, CEO and President of the Humane Society of the United States was on Ellen DeGeneres to discuss several animal related issues, including the HSUS’s partnership with Michael Vick and Missouri’s Proposition B, a ballot initative that aims to stop puppy mills.

Missouri residents voted to approve Prop B, but it has since been overturned.

“Seal hunting is one of the most atrocious and inhumane acts against animals allowed by any government. Canada is allowing the slaughter of a record number of seals in their 2011 hunting season, which is going on right now. The seals are often younger than 3 months old. This has to stop. To my friends and fans in Canada: please help put a stop to this.”

–Ellen DeGeneres, on a post to her show’s website, calling for fans to donate to help end the seal hunt. This year, the Canadian government has set a quota for 468,200 seals that can be killed.

Ellen DeGeneres recently featured authors Kathy Freston and Tal Ronnen on her show for a vegan segment.

Freston helps one family make the gradual transition of adding more vegan meals into its diet to combat some health problems like high cholesterol.

This is a family that professes to eat meat every day and they’re completely open to the idea with one caveat: dad hopes his beer doesn’t get taken away.

–Ellen DeGeneres, on accepting the PETCO Foundation’s HOPE Award given to public figures that promote the bond between humans and animals. The awards ceremony will be held in San Diego, California on April 30, 2011. DeGeneres is the co-owner of Halo Pet Food, a natural line of food for animals containing only human-grade ingredients. Last year, Halo partnered with several non-profit organizations like Freekibble, The Humane Society of the US, ASPCA, Pets for Patriots, and The National Canine Cancer Foundation to donate 1 million pet meals to over 100 shelters across the United States.

The vegan heat on The Ellen DeGeneres show got even hotter as Ellen hosted Mike Tyson recently.

Tyson discussed the death of his daughter, his sobriety and his new body after going vegan.

Before and after shots are shown of Mike’s body before his lost almost 100 pounds.

Ellen: “I am vegan as well. I heard that you are vegan.”
Mike: “Two years. It’s an awesome feeling.”
