Halo Vegan Garden Medley Dog Food

Ellen DeGeneres‘ pet food company, Halo, has unveiled a vegan dog food for animal lovers who want their dogs to eat like them.

The Vegan Garden Medley is a vegan blend of vitamins, minerals and the same essential nutrients as in meat based protein diets.

Peas and chickpeas provide digestible protein, while pearled barley, oat groats and potatoes are digestible carbohydrates and fiber. Healthy oils like canola, flaxseed and sunflower are added to the mix for good sources of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Vegan Garden Medley also contains numerous fruits and vegetables like sweet potatoes, blueberries, carrots and cranberries that provide vitamins and antioxidants.

Almost sounds like a meal fit for a human, but no, it’s still only recommended for dogs.

Halo also still recommends you feed your cat a meaty diet.

“Halo will not be formulating a vegetarian or vegan recipe for cats who are obligate carnivores and whose nutritional needs are very different from dogs,” writes Donna J. Spector, BS, DVM, DACVIM-Internal Medicine Veterinary Advisor; Halo, Purely for Pets.

“One of the things I really believe is that if you’re going to have pets you should treat them like you’d treat yourself,” DeGeneres said. “I don’t mean you should treat them to new shoes or a fancy car – I’m talking about the basics; a nice bed, fun toys and good food.”
