Isaiah Mustafa, better known as the Old Spice Man in the deodorant’s commercials, recently Tweeted about going on a vegan diet and asking if anyone who knew how to cook it.

Mustafa just might smell even better than Old Spice once he replaces steak, chicken and cheese with seitan, pasta and tempeh. A study showed ladies judge the body odor of a man fed a vegetarian diet to be “significantly more attractive, more pleasant, and less intense.”

Women who’ve dated omnivores and vegans, chime in! Did your vegan men smell just as good as the veggie stir fry cooking in the kitchen?

Joan Jett
Joan Jett opened the contents of her grocery shopping cart to Dr. John Briffa in The Guardian’s regular feature of “What’s In Your Basket?”

Being vegetarian, Jett’s food didn’t bring too much criticism from Briffa, even the Olive Oil who’s virginity is doubtful. More on that later.

“Versatile and tasty oil is very rich in so-called ‘monounsaturated’ fat that is believed to have benefits for the heart and cardiovascular system generally. Olive oil also contains ‘phenolic’ compounds, that protect the body against freed radical damage, and have been linked with a reduced risk of some forms of cancer including breast cancer.”

Here’s hoping Jett has genuine “extra virgin olive oil,” as a new study indicates as many as 2/3 of the olive oils on the shelves claiming to be EVOO, were found to be a mix of cheaper oils like canola and nut, as reported in an LA Times article called Lab Tests Cast Doubt On Oil’s Virginity.

Anthony Bourdain

Gordon Ramsay joked he would put his kid on a fence and electrocute him if he went vegetarian. Now another celebrity chef with a taste for both fine food and foul mouth has shared how he would react if his daughter went meatless.

Anthony Bourdain told the Miami New Times he will cope with the situation by making her smell pork every day. Lovely.

“I’ll say, “It’s a phase! It’s a phase!” I will live with it. I will love my daughter. But I will cook bacon around her every day.”

Bourdain had better get ready to grab the faux ham instead, because according to the LA Times, his daughter is a good candidate for going veg 10 years from now.

Eat your veggies or pay a fine?

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan was asked by Senator Tom Coburn is she thought it was constitutional to require people to eat three servings of vegetables and fruits daily to cut health care costs.

“Sounds like a dumb law,” Kagan said. “But I think that the question of whether it’s a dumb law is different from … the question of whether it’s constitutional and I think that courts would be wrong to strike down laws that they think are senseless just because they’re senseless.”

The question was jokingly thrown at Kagan by Coburn, but was alluding to the idea of whether people should be required to purchase health insurance, a measure part of the health care overhaul that’s expected to be challenged nationwide.

Eight Belles trainer Larry Jones is defending statistics found in a study on thoroughbred fatalities at North American tracks, stating the injuries are what is to be expected in athletic situations and will happen, regardless of the racing track surface.

A year long study released by the Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit in Lexington, Kentucky shows there were 2.14 deaths on dirt tracks per 1,000 starts, while both synthetic and turf tracks each had 1.78 fatalities.

“What so many people don’t want to understand is that a lot of our injuries are from them being athletes in general,” Jones told Reuters.

“If we had swimming races for horses, somehow a certain number of them would be getting hurt. Look at how many humans get hurt at track and field and that’s a no-contact sport.”
