The royal wedding of the year, decade and possibly the century is scheduled to take place this Friday, April 29. That’s the day Prince William and Kate Middleton are scheduled to exchange vows, taking Britain’s most eligible bachelor officially off the market.

Several members of the Royal Family have become known for their charitable and sustainable initiatives and Prince William and Catherine will more than likely follow this lead. PETA India has already petitioned the couple to begin their marriage in an animal-friendly manner, by sending them wedding garments crafted from animal-free silk.

In 2007, Lauren Bush launched FEED Projects, a program that works with the UN World Food Program to feed hungry people. Since then, her eco-friendly and fashionable totes displaying the signature FEED logo have fed thousands all over the world, including the United States and most recently, victims of the Japan tsunami and earthquake.

Runway to Green is launching a collection of fashions created by some of the world’s top designers in order to raise awareness about environmental issues.

Each designer has created an item for the Runway to Green collection that will be available in retail stores nationwide. These same designers have made the commitment to investigate more sustainable manufacturing standards set forth by the Clean by Design intiative from the Natural Resources Defense Council.

All designers pledged to adhere to eco-friendly standards when creating the pieces, so it’s no surprise vegan designer John Bartlett made the decision to write to Salma Hayek, one of the hosts of the event, urging her to keep fur out.
