Alissa White-Gluz

Alissa White-Gluz from the Montreal based metal band The Agonist, knows there’s nothing more hardcore than finding a good vegan meal while on the road.

She regularly uses HappyCow.net to locate vegan establishments around the world and brags that her hometown is one of best places to find food.

Alissa told Veg Belly:

“Since I became vegan about 15 years ago, the vegan scene has really flourished. There are lots of university-centered areas of the city where you can find 2 to 3 vegan restaurants or stores within the same block. There is a really nice scene here and since Montreal is a rather artistic city anyways, you’ll often find cool cafes or places that are more open minded and offer vegan alternatives in their menu, even if it is not strictly a vegan place.”

We don’t have any doubts why United and not Continental has the slogan “Fly The Friendly Skies.” There was nothing friendly about the event that took place on a Newark bound flight when a woman did not receive a vegetarian meal she found suitable.

Maybe Continental should make its slogan, “If it has a face, throw it in our face.”

Kate Nash

Kate Nash has some quirks, like her OCD, which made her go vegetarian. But for a gal with anxiety, amazingly, it’s not being thousands of feet above ground the makes her nervous. It’s the food she might encounter on the flight.

“I’m not scared of crashing or turbulence,” Nash told the Columbus Dispatch. “I hate the food, so I always make a packed lunch”

The holidays are moments away and if you prefer the friendly skies to get over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s, you should know the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine has researched and found the best airports for healthy vegan and vegetarian food. If flying out of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, you’ll have it made. Taking off or landing in Las Vegas or Washington, D.C, however, may be a problem.

"The Tofu Tollbooth"

"The Tofu Tollbooth"

Dar Williams is a singer-songwriter who collaborated with Elizabeth Zipern to create a one stop book filled with dining suggestions for the vegetarian traveler, The Tofu Tollbooth. The concept is great, plus the book stays true to being environmentally friendly as it’s printed with soy ink on recyclable paper.

“It’s a directory of natural food stores,” Williams told Windy City Times. “So, that’s the link; because I’m a traveler. And, actually, I’m a terrible cook. I mean, a really bad cook. So, it would be kind of funny if people ( laughs ) thought it was a cookbook. They probably imagine me in an Indian print skirt over a pot of lentils. I am so the grab-and-go kind of bad eater.”
