Trader Joe's Vegan Pad Thai Tofu

Trader Joe’s Vegan Pad Thai with Tofu is apparently so good, it’s worth two educated, professional women throwing punches over.

Singer and teacher Marcella Caprario and Dr. Cathleen London, a nationally renown physician who’s appeared on shows like CNN’s The Joy Behar Show and Fox TV, were recently involved in an altercation over the prized frozen dish that got physical .

We don’t have any doubts why United and not Continental has the slogan “Fly The Friendly Skies.” There was nothing friendly about the event that took place on a Newark bound flight when a woman did not receive a vegetarian meal she found suitable.

Maybe Continental should make its slogan, “If it has a face, throw it in our face.”

William Jefferson

We love veggie burger boxes stashed in a politician’s freezer like any other veg, but when those packages are used for illegal activity, it’s a double-edged sword of publicity for the meatless life.

Former Democratic Representative for Louisiana William Jefferson was found guilty of doing shady business deals and storing his compensation in veggie burger packages in the freezer. After taking money from people looking to broker deals in Africa, Jefferson would store it in the freezer. It would later be sent to the vice president of Nigeria in hopes of influencing a telecommunications deal that would financially benefit Jefferson’s family.

How much “cold” cash did officials say Jefferson stashed in the freezer? $90,000!

Vegan Cookie Monster Thief Suspect

Vegan Cookie Monster Thief Suspect

Cookie Monster should stop looking for his wife near Oscar’s can and instead head over to NYC’s One Lucky Duck vegan eatery.

According to the New York Post, the manager there claims a woman has tried to rob him of his vegan, organic cookies twice during the past month. Arriving on a scooter, the woman first hit him with her foot-powered vehicle and then tried to spray him with Mace.

These gingerbread cookies she is after must be good, because the last time she attempted to steal them, she yelled, “F*ck you! I’ll be back every day! You can count on it,” before escaping.

What We Like: The use of non-motorized vehicle as the getaway instrument. An idling getaway car wastes gas and puts toxic emissions into the air.

What We Hate: Stealing is never cool, especially from establishments that are trying to do the right thing by providing, animal and earth-friendly goods. Reward these places by paying for your cookies before taking off on your scooter.

It’s your choice whether or not to use profanity to indicate you’ll be a returning customer.

Premiere Of "The Agronomist" For The National Coalition For Hatian Rights - After Party

Reggae musician Buju Banton is in a legal battle with the Pinellas County Jail over his ability to get vegetarian food while housed there.

Banton was imprisoned in December for allegedly planning the distribution of cocaine.

He claimed the jail did not respond to his requests for vegetarian meals and as a result, he lost 40 pounds.

A judge ruled last week that his claim of losing 40 pounds was false.

According to hiphopdx, Banton is a strict Rastafarian, and many do not eat red meat.

A man was arrested after he allegedly used a knife to slash pieces of meat at a grocery store, throwing the packages of beef on the floor before pouring dog food on them.

A call made to 911 in an Edinburg, Indiana store revealed someone saying, “We have a gentleman here cutting into the meat and throwing it onto the floor.”

Anthony Coffman, 28, said he was a vegetarian and it bothered him when people ate meat and he wanted to protect little girls from getting chubby from eating it.

“He told people at the store that God had sent him there to do that. And he was trying to save young girls from the beef,” police chief David Lutz told the media.

A store employee tried to stop Coffman, but gave up after he was threatened.

Jayson Williams Pleads Not Guilty To Manslaughter

Jayson Williams may be getting the freshest, local produce available in New Jersey while he serves his sentence for aggravated assault in the death of a limo driver.

TMZ reports that the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Wrightstown, New Jersey participates in the Jersey Fresh program, meaning if Williams eats the colorful parts of his plate, he’ll consume locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Developed in 1983, the Jersey Fresh program was designed to help farmers advertise their locally grown items to residents of the state, according to the State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture website.

Initially a radio advertising program, methods of disseminating the news has spread to billboards, television and print ads reminding consumers to support their local farmers.

Now that’s a can’t-get-it-out-of-your-head jingle worth remembering.

The Surfrider Foundation's 25th Anniversary Gala

Alexandra Paul‘s brother went to prison for his involvement in burning down a horse slaughter house.

The activist was always known to his sister for being passionate about animal rights, but like many who serve behind bars, he’ll come out changed for the better–this time healthwise.

Jonathan gave up smoking, lost weight and now teaches spinning and boot camp classes to fellow inmates.

He also ran his first marathon–by doing 95 laps around the track at the medium security correctional facility he now calls home.

Alexandra writes in the Huffington Post:

“With all the sadness and pain that a family feels when a loved one goes to prison, there just may be a silver lining. My brother will come out still the passionate animal rights activist I love and admire so much, but he will have added marathon runner to his life resume. And probably at least 4 years to his life for having quit smoking the day he entered prison.”

Having never exercised regularly before, Jonathan gradually worked up to 6 miles a day, and caught the attention of the guards as not only the “vegan who reads all those books about global warming,” but also a runner

As a environmental activist, Jonathan’s decision to quit smoking sets just as good of an example as refraining from animal products.

Not only do cigarettes pollute indoor air quality and put everyone at risk for health problems, some data suggests cigarette butts are the  most littered item in the U.S. and account for 50% of the litter in the developed world.

Whether it’s a patch, gum, buddy system or replacing a cig by munching on celery, investigate how to quit smoking today to be a better steward of the earth.
