Boy George at Maya Nightclub

We already knew Boy George made all the vegetarian food in prison during his stint he served for false imprisonment and assault of a male escort.

Maybe that’s why they were so nice to him.

“You get a lot of attention when you first go in, especially if you’re Boy George,” George said. “But, in a funny sort of way, people were actually quite sweet; people would come up to me and say, ‘Do you need a tooth brush, a mirror?’ There’s some nice people in prison!”

There were even some people paying homage to the Culture Club king, who’s real name is George O’Dowd.

“When you walk in, you’ve got the balconies, the safety nets, people shouting Karma Chameleon, banging things.”

“You think, ‘How am I going to make this work for me?’ I got a job in the kitchen, made the vegetarian food. The more you do that, the quicker it (the sentence) goes. They probably thought I was going to be a complete nightmare.”

If you’re heading to prison anytime soon, ask the judge to send you to one of the top 10 vegetarian friendly prisons.

Otherwise, you might end up in the kitchen like Boy George cooking for yourself.

Danielle Bremner "Utah"

Danielle Bremner, known for her tag signature of Utah, has been sentenced for 6 months after pleading guilty to more than a dozen vandalism charges in the Boston area, where’s she’s also been banned.

Bremner, who gawker.com makes a physical comparison to Zooey Deschanel, also happens to follow a similar diet as the recently married singer and actress. Bremner is vegan while Zooey eats mostly vegan.

She and her partner in crime Jim Clay Harper were found responsible for painting graffiti in several cities, and she served time in Rikers for 6 months, where she complained about the lack of vegan food and threatened to sue.

Finally, they got her the peanut butter and soymilk she wanted.

Hope the new jailhouse has tofu on the menu.

Hope she also got Jim to go veg before the two were separated by bars.

What are your thoughts on graffiti?

Art or asinine deviance?

Boy George Goes Raw To Shed Jail Weight

Boy George plays a DJ set at Pride in Brighton

Although he can make a mean jail bird pie, Boy George plans to lay off the cooked food until he loses a little belly.

Former Culture Club frontman, who’s real name is George O’Dowd, had said while in jail he cooked vegetarian food for himself and fellow inmates.

George was released in May.

“He’s on a raw food regime and doing an hour’s walking a day,” a source told Contact Music.

The source also added George had some good DJ jobs lined up, so hopefully he’ll get extra exercise shaking his buns while turning the tables.

Great that George was able to remain veg while in jail.

Some folks have even turned vegan during their jail term.

What a great way to start turning your life around before even being released.

Gay Pride Weekend In London

There are numerous ways to pass the time while serving a jail or prison sentence.

Singer Boy George decided to make himself useful during his term by showing off his chef skills in the kitchen during his four months behind bars.

The 80s Culture Club and “Karma Kameleon” star convicted of falsely imprisoning a male escort said he made all the meatless food in prison.

“I’m a pretty good cook and made all the vegetarian food,” George said, according to the Daily Express.

Hey, it probably beats most prison commissary.

Luckily, George had access to all the ingredients he needed to make a good veg dish, as other prisoners, like Lizzy Borden’s Ira Black, aren’t so lucky.

Hacker Gary McKinnon Vegetarian, Pacifist According To Friends

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Notorious Veggies.

Judgement In Extradition Proceedings Against Gary McKinnon

Gary McKinnon, also known as SOLO, has been accused of hacking into several military computers, including the Army, Navy, and Pentagon, as well as NASA computers.

The Scottish ex systems administrator who was involved in what has been called the “biggest military computer hack of all time,” faces extradition to the U.S. to be tried for the crimes.

Friends and family say McKinnon doesn’t belong in the harsh prison system, his stepfather describing him as a “gentle guy,” and a pacifist who also happens to be vegetarian.

His mother said, “He loves to cook vegetarian food. He is so precise. Each mushroom has to be cut to exactly the same size.”

McKinnon has been diagnosed with a form of autism by famed psychologist Simon Baron-Cohen and it’s thought the syndrome, which often is marked by isolated focus and obsessiveness, played a role in McKinnon’s alleged criminal behavior.

Chrissie Hynde doubted there was good vegan/vegetarian food in jail and she just may be right. Guitarist Ira Black of heavy metal band Lizzy Borden has been jailed for failing to pay a fine and now is on a hunger strike because he says the correction facility has no vegan or vegetarian food, according to Classic Rock Magazine

“Ira has been a vegan for 15 years and it seems none of the local correctional facilities will accommodate any inmate with a vegetarian or vegan diet,” his fiancee said. “They will give inmates with medical problems or religious beliefs a different meal, but there is no concern for the vegetarians/vegans. He feels very strongly about this and has gone on a ‘hunger strike’ until his release later this month to show how serious this should be taken. The situation has been escalating hour by hour.”

“If I can just get the word out so that people will start calling the jail, there can be some changes made,” Black said.

“I want people to know how legitimate and sincere veganism and vegetarianism is and this is a serious human-rights issue, I’m not just trying to manipulate the system.”

He said his requests have been responded to with punishments and threats, such as making him remove the “Hunger Strike” sign around his neck and the deputies telling him to “just go with the system.”
