Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 in Actors, Transportation.

Tobey Maguire

Tobey Maguire is such a hard-core vegetarian that even his ride has to be animal-free.

The actor was given a Mercedes for his transportation needs while filming an adaptation of The Great Gatsby in Australia.

The only problem was that the luxury car included leather seats.

Pope Benedict XVI Should Green His Ride Says PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, June 24th, 2011 in Environment-Eco-Green, Transportation.

Pope Benedict XVI

The Pope is not as brash as Mercedes-Benz is, so he doesn’t go around bragging about the number of dead animals it took to make the popemobile. But that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t consider trying to eliminate the dead animals that go into it.

PETA has taken the time to write to Pope Benedict XVI, asking him to request the next car the automobile company makes for him to travel in be manufactured without leather.

My NYC Biking Story: Sarinya Srisakul from Streetfilms on Vimeo.

She’s tough. She darts through traffic effortlessly, whether it’s on a bicycle or a big red truck. Her “hose” is probably bigger than yours. Did we also mention that Sarinya Srisakul, New York city’s first Asian-American female firefighter, is also a vegan?

Biz Stone and his business partner and co-founder of Twitter, Evan Williams, are celebrating five years of saying it in 140 characters.

Stone was recently a guest on Conan O’Brien‘s show when the subject of some of Stone’s past Tweets came up. One of those Tweets was about Stone discovering Amtrak  offered a vegan burger. Stone Tweeted,”Wow, Amtrak serves a vegan burger! Nice.”

“I would not have that burger,” Conan said while laughing.

Well, that’s surely his choice, but we think Conan will miss out on some serious foodie fun!

Vincent Kartheiser has already greened his life by taking the bus or train instead of a car, eating vegetarian and using his neighbor’s john.

Now Kartheiser and his Mad Men co-star Rich Sommer are starring in a PSA for high-speed rail that was created by the public-interest advocacy group U.S. PIRG.

The video is set to debut this Wednesday, March 9, but U.S. PIRG posted a teaser on their Facebook page last week.

The clip shows Kartheiser and Sommer in the Mad Men 1965 setting discussing the possibility of high-speed trains.

Mercedes-Benz Loans Green To Green Businesses

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 10th, 2010 in Business, Environment-Eco-Green, Transportation.

Mercedes-Benz

The Conservation’s ShadeFund is a new program designed to raise capital for small loans to green businesses.

Mercedes-Benz has graciously taken the step to be the first business to pledge to lend between 10-12 loans to green companies in the next 1-2 years, the first two being an organic farm that sells herbs and vegetables and a company that gathers wood from downed trees and turns it into furniture. Loan sizes will range from $5,000-$25,000, depending on the project.

Vincent Kartheiser

“Mad Men” actor Vincent Kartheiser is a model in living green in the strictest sense. When he needs to use the restroom, he must rely on the neighbor’s toilet because he doesn’t own one. He’s also a vegetarian, avoids driving and does not plan to have children. Is he a “mad man” for doing all these things?

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Kartheiser explained his car flooded, and while waiting for insurance to take care of issues, he started to take the bus and train.

“I found that it enriched my life. It actually made my life better to slow down a little bit and walk through the city and interact with people that I usually kind of speed by on the freeway.”

As for the bathroom issue, he says he eventually will get a toilet.

“My house is just a wooden box. I mean I am planning to get a toilet at some point. But for now I have to go to the neighbours. I threw it all out.”

Vincent will probably be investigating eco-friendly toilets, such as tankless systems or those that adjust the level of water with the volume of material being flushed down.

Kudos to the neighbors for letting him use theirs. Who would be willing to let this happen when your fellow vegetarian who just finished a bowl of beans, lentils and other fibrous material comes over with the “urgent” need to use your tank?
