Danny Seo Unveils Simmons Vegan Natural Care Mattresses (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 11th, 2010 in Environment-Eco-Green, Household, Videos.

If you eat vegan and wear vegan, you should also be sleeping vegan.

Consumers on the lookout for natural, earth-friendly mattresses may be disappointed to learn many use wool as an alternative to the chemicals required to make them flame-retardant.

Danny Seo, eco stylist and consultant on CBS’ The Early Show and Better Homes and Gardens, unveils the Simmons Natural Care Mattress line in this video, made from rubber-tree based latex and a foam enhanced with soy. Now you can sleep, eat, relax, watch TV or do, ahem, any other activity on a completely animal-free bed.

From Ecorazzi:

“The mattress is made primarily from natural rubber tree based latex — a biodegradable material that’s also hypoallergenic and naturally dust mite, mold and mildew resistant. Beneath the latex is a layer of base foam enhanced with soy. The use of soy, as opposed to traditional foam, means that less petroleum was used in the manufacturing process, which ultimately leads to a lighter carbon footprint.”

"Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook"

One half of the Skinny Bitches is back, with a book filled with not only recipes, diet and fitness advice, but thoughts on eating to create and maintain a healthier planet.

In Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook, author Kim Barnouin, uses a chapter of her latest work to give a firm lecture on sustainable eating minus the animal rights component.

“This is not where I criticize factory farming for its inhumane and utter disdain for animal welfare,” Barnouin writes. “Skinny Bitch already did that. Actually, I’ve got a whole other bone to pick with the industry: our food system and its immense contributions to greenhouse gas emission and global warming.”

Colbert Report Full Episodes 2010 Election March to Keep Fear Alive

Stephen Colbert has never failed to come to the humor rescue, making light of green and environmental topics that are absurd, news-breaking, or, in the case of discontinuing the 100% biodegradable Sun Chips bags because opening them made too much noise, insane.

Soon, things will get quieter again. And we’ll be able to hear some of the sounds that are becoming an unfortunate part of nature.

“Luckily we can save the planet from unpleasant sound by using new quiet coal technologies and breakthroughs in silent oil,” Colbert says. “And if we just do that much, eventually the ice caps will melt, the seas will rise, and our coastal cities will be underwater, where it’s nice and quiet.”

Vegan Sun Chips lovers, however, can still make all the noise they want. For now.
