Bethenny Frankel

Bethenny Frankel is making her way across the country for her Skinny Girl Night Out tour, nights filled with talk about food, diet, health and everything else from the Real Housewives of New York City star, cookbook author and chef.

Frankel has always advocated a heavily plant-based diet even though she’s not a vegetarian, and this weekend she stayed the course by sharing her experiences eating veggie burgers and falafel in Connecticut.

When asked she ended up at lunch in Hartford, Bethenny Tweeted, “Trumbull kitchen.great veggie burger.nice staff.”

After her show in Stamford, she treated herself to Layla’s Falafel.

LivWise Olivia Newton-John

Vegetarian fans of Olivia Newton-John were disappointed to learn she had started eating grilled chicken and fish because she thought that action would alleviate anemia. Olivia was once a very outspoken vegetarian and environmentalist, even recording an animal rights song The Promise (The Dolphin Song) in the early 80s.

But Olivia has entered the cookbook world now. And just because she isn’t eating 100% vegetarian doesn’t mean she’s forgotten how to cook it. Her book, Livwise, set for release in May, is very vegetarian friendly.

Emily Deschanel Pleads For Chimpanzees’ Retirement

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Emily Deschanel

Emily Deschanel has written to the director of the National Institutes of Health, asking him to return chimpanzees who were living at the Alamogordo Primate Facility in New Mexico before they were moved to an invasive research laboratory in Texas. The chimps were moved before the NIH agreed not to remove several dozen other chimpanzees from the sanctuary.

“I am thrilled that the National Institutes of Health has suspended plans to move the 186 chimpanzees who live at the Alamogordo Primate Facility to Southwest National Primate Research Center,” writes Deschanel.

“But I am concerned about the well-being of the 14 chimpanzees who were moved to Southwest before this decision was made. The aging chimpanzees were moved from near-retirement in New Mexico to a facility that conducts painful, invasive experiments on animals and has a long history of animal abuse.”

Denise Richards

Charlie Sheen may be in the dog house, but his ex-wife knows real pups don’t belong  there.

Access Hollywood Live kicked off a monthly pet adoption series that will air during its one hour daily entertainment talk show.

Denise Richards helped launch the program last Friday, along with her friend Rascal, a tan-colored Chihuahua rescued from the Los Angeles area.

Each monthly segment on Access Hollywood Live will feature animals available for adoption. Utah-based Best Friends Animal Society will help viewers who are interested in adopting the animal or get them in touch with a shelter in their area where they can give a four-legged friend a home.

“Thanks to Access Hollywood Live, this monthly animal segment will surely help us save more lives and result in many animals finding their forever home,” Richards said.

Alyssa Milano

Looks like we won’t be tossing Alyssa Milano in the basket of female vegetarian celebrities who start chowing down on fried chicken during their pregnancies.

The Hall Pass actress revealed during a premiere of her new film that she “can’t get enough broccoli.”

Whew! So glad she didn’t say “beef stir fry” after the word “broccoli.”

Craving meat when you’re a pregnant vegetarian may be tough when you want to stick to your ethics, but there are also dangers that come with some of those unusual, uncontrollable desires.
