Davey Havok

Davey Havok, frontman for AFI, has written his first novel.

Pop Kids tells the story of Score Massi, an 18-year old living in a small California town and fixated with many things in life, including pop culture, moving to a big city, and “vegan banana bread,” according to the summary on its back cover.

Such a life is often portrayed in the media as one that includes dabbling in drugs and alcohol on your way up or once you reach the top.

That isn’t the case for Massi and it never was for Havok, as he explained how he got involved with the vegan, straight-edge movement.

Amtrak

A bill has been introduced in Congress that would allow passengers to take their pets along with them on trains.

The Pets on Trains Act of 2013 or H.R. 2066, which is sponsored by Reps. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., and Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., has already gained the support and praise of the Humane Society of the United States.

Rep. Denham said, “My dog, Lily, is part of our family and travels with us to and from California all the time. If I can take her a on a plane, why can’t I travel with her on Amtrak, too? Allowing families to bring their animals with them will facilitate transportation and efficiency while also providing a much-needed source of revenue for Amtrak.”

Kathy Freston

Between polluted waters, over-fishing, and being completely anti-animal welfare, eating real tuna is a completely fishy thing to do even if it doesn’t smell.

Kathy Freston has been a champ at making ordinary, old-fashioned comfort foods from faux meats and plant-based proteins.

Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson has been very busy spending a lot of time in New Orleans.

Between shooting for the upcoming film Now You See Me and a new HBO detective series yet to be named, some might think he’d be tempted to go home and give into something less than healthy after a long day on the set.

That’s not the case, according to a recent interview where Harrelson reveals his biggest indulgence is a “cooked” meal every now and then.

“I was a meat eater, basically a Tyrannosaurus Rex. I love steak (and would eat it) every single day, twice a day. And (then) I would eat my salad second, and then candy galore. I literally had to change that and become a vegan. It’s definitely a huge life change, and I still love the smell of steak. But, I’m not perfect, and I’m making the change. I think it’s for the best.”
