Sarah Palin‘s new Discovery show about Alaska, tentatively titled, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”, hasn’t made it to the screen yet, but there’s already a call for cancellation.

Activist group Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, the same group that launched its EyeonPalin campaign as a way to keep track of her record on animal and environmental issues, has created a petition, urging Discovery to drop the show.

The petition reads as follows:

“As parent company of Animal Planet, The Discovery Channel and TLC, and known for your wildlife-focused productions, I hope that you will reconsider your decision to partner with such a terribly anti-wildlife and politically divisive persona as Sarah Palin.”

So far, the petition has received 170,000 signatures.

According to the LA Times, the Sportsmen’s Alliance (who’ve been busy sending email to groups like Bluewater Comics for producing a book about Ellen DeGeneres that supports the Humane Society), is protesting, asking Palin fans to sign a counter petition.

There may not be a need to tally the John Hancocks on both sides, as viewers may control the show’s outcome with their remote controls.

In a poll that is available on the LA Times website that asks, “Will you watch Sarah Palin’s docu-series about Alaska?” only 16% of respondents mimicked Palin’s famous positive answer of “You betcha!”

How do you embarrass an anti factory farm, pro plant based diet guru?

Remind him of his past transgressions.

Jonathan Safran Foer was at a book festival in London discussing his Eating Animals book, when British author Hephzibah Anderson mentioned something to Foer about sharing a bacon cheeseburger with him several years ago.

How did Foer respond?

The New York Post described his reaction as “sheepish.”

Gotta wonder what this Anderson guy’s intentions were, bringing up Foer’s “past” in front of everyone like that.

Was he hoping Foer would say something along the lines of, “Yeah, that was the best tasting burger I ever had–before I went vegetarian.”

Or was he waiting for Foer to deny it, then whip out the big photo taken back then for memories?

If you’ve taken to spreading the good news about how a vegetarian diet is better for yourself, animals and the planet, be aware that what happened in carnivorous days doesn’t stay there.

If you get reminded of  how you used to eat the double double with fried egg on top in the most annoying and inconvenient situations, politely say that was before you realized how crowded the conditions in factory farms are or the amount of antibiotics wasted in animal agriculture.

Then ask him why he is still going to the steakhouse twice a week–with two different girls who think they’re “exclusive.”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 12th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Videos.

The clip above shows some highlights from Pamela Anderson making and debuting her signature celebrity milkshake at Millions of Milkshakes in West Hollywood.

Pamela’s is the first vegan celebrity milkshake and Hollywood.tv got the chance to chat with Pamela during the event.

Pamela said her kids like the milkshake and it’s what she makes for them at home in Malibu.

“I think a lot of young people love being vegetarian, because they’re more open to being educated about it,” Pamela added.

Sure the old will like Pamela’s shake just as much–especially if a daily shake will bring them her Dancing with the Stars legs!

“It is my recipe. My kids love milkshakes. If you are a vegan you don’t drink milk, so I wanted to do something vegan. I think it is important for kids to eat healthy. You just have to expose them to it and they make their own decisions.”

Jessica Simpson Marie Claire

Jessica Simpson Marie Claire

Jessica Simpson is the cover girl for the May 2010 issue of Marie Claire magazine and the inside of the publication is filled with more pictures of Jessica totally bare–without makeup, that is.

Jessica is doing so to promote her program, “A Beautiful Me,” something that is designed to make women feel more comfortable with who they are.

Being comfortable in your own skin might be a wise choice for animals as well.

Although plenty of synthetic and non animal derived ingredients exist in the cosmetic world, many companies still use animal products, like pearl essence obtained from fish scales used to make lipstick glossy or dyes derived from insects.

For the times you want to put on your face, the leaping bunny logo is one to look for, as it denotes the product follows standards set by the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals, developed by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics, a coalition of animal protection groups, including the Humane Society of the United States and other animal protection groups in Europe and Canada.

Don’t forget your handy list of animal ingredients and try to stay with certified vegan products.

Pearl Lowe outside of the Met Bar in London

Designer Pearl Lowe may be choosing patterns for a crib and baby blanket, as she’s expecting her fifth child.

Like so many vegetarian women who become pregnant, Lowe has temporarily gone back to eating meat, but not because she’s craving the steakhouse.

And although she’s been anemic, the decision to eat meat during pregnancy after five years of vegetarianism isn’t something she’s happy with.

“I know that sounds a bit weird, and it’s not something I would have done otherwise, but I am very anaemic so I did it for the baby. It hasn’t been easy for me.”

Besides consulting with your doctor to see how you can incorporate plant based sources of iron into your diet when pregnant, the March of Dimes lists several sources of vegetarian iron, including dried fruits, iron fortified cereals, breads and pastas, oatmeal, whole grains, blackstrap molasses, dark green vegetables like spinach, broccoli and kale, nuts and seeds, beans, peas and eating the skins along with your potatoes.

There are also vegetarian iron supplements.

A baby on board might be a good time to try out other forms of  milk and trade the tofu for iron rich seitan, since both real milk and soy protein may block the absorption of iron.

Alicia Silverstone May Add “Butter” To Vegan Life

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 12th, 2010 in Actresses, Film & TV, Food & Drink.

Broadway Opening Of RED - Arrivals And Curtain Call

Alicia Silverstone may be a vegan, but she may add some butter to her life soon.

The actress is rumored to be cast in the film starring Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell featuring a butter carving champion in a small town.

According to Access Hollywood, Production Weekly says Silverstone is currently in negotiation for the comedy that has already cast Jennifer Garner and Ashley Greene.

If Silverstone were competing in a butter carving contest herself, she’d pick her favorite vegan butter, Earth Balance, as she’s blogged about it on her website, The Kind Life.

Available in tubs and traditional butter sticks, Earth Balance comes in several varieties that include soy, no soy, canola oil or without, and contain all the buttery flavor minus the cholesterol and dairy farms.
